Quick degree for my wife - danhibb - 10-11-2022 Hello All! My wife has decided to transition into a different job. The job she is interested in requires a degree. The degree held does not matter. She just is required to have that "golden piece of paper". The goal is to have this knocked out by summer if it all possible. I have included her completed coursework. I am torn on whether to advise her to finish her Business degree or if there was an Independent/Interdisciplinary Studies degree that I'm not aware of. She has completed 128 hrs in the fields of business and elementary education. Thank you all in advance! At a quick overview, I'm feeling like UMPI's online program may be a good fit. This is the University of Maine at Presque Isle. They offer a Bachelor of Liberal Studies in Educational Studies. https://online.umpi.edu/degrees/undergraduate/bachelor-of-liberal-studies/educational-minor/ RE: Quick degree for my wife - danhibb - 10-11-2022 (10-11-2022, 10:53 AM)ashkir Wrote: Hey Dan, Southwestern Oklahoma State University and Oklahoma State University RE: Quick degree for my wife - ashkir - 10-11-2022 (10-11-2022, 10:54 AM)danhibb Wrote:(10-11-2022, 10:53 AM)ashkir Wrote: Hey Dan, Awesome. They look on par to me. Was your wife's BIOL1004 a biology with lab by any chance? It looks like your wife already finished everything she needs for an Associates. Did she already get an Associates? I feel like with the amount of credits she has, she will be very close to the 90 mark with UMPI. I would recommend having her apply there, and, get her credits evaluated. After that point we can help you find like Sophia.org or other classes to speed up the process. But, if she's fast at taking classes, she can knock this out by the time spring is over. UMPI is $1400 a term, $2800 a semester. They take FAFSA, and, if she is eligible for Pell her cost will be $0. There are no textbook fees, or hidden fees. This is a state public university so it has good name value. RE: Quick degree for my wife - bjcheung77 - 10-11-2022 @Dan, did you get started with your degree? What did you do since you last posted here? I actually have the same recommendation as I have on that post. UMPI is a very good option, wife has the language requirement and also a science lab it seems, she just needs to complete a BLS with Education Minor and also a Management Minor for the "business" part of things. Voila, you get both minors instead of thinking of either one... https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-Need-RA-degree-for-work-please-HELP RE: Quick degree for my wife - danhibb - 10-11-2022 (10-11-2022, 10:57 AM)ashkir Wrote:(10-11-2022, 10:54 AM)danhibb Wrote:(10-11-2022, 10:53 AM)ashkir Wrote: Hey Dan, RE: Quick degree for my wife - ashkir - 10-11-2022 (10-11-2022, 10:58 AM)bjcheung77 Wrote: @Dan, did you get started with your degree? Looks like him and his wife, if they do UMPI would have some overlap in classes and could study together. RE: Quick degree for my wife - danhibb - 10-11-2022 Yes, BIOL1004 included a lab. She has not gotten an Associates. Should she? Thank you for the help! Dan RE: Quick degree for my wife - ashkir - 10-11-2022 (10-11-2022, 11:01 AM)danhibb Wrote: Yes, BIOL1004 included a lab. She has not gotten an Associates. Should she? It is up to her, if she wants the Associate's right now. It will be free from Pierpont. https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Pierpont_C%26TC For her BA, I do recommend University of Maine at Presque Isle. Management or Educational studies will be best. Focus on the Bachelor of liberal studies. Since you have a lot of credit overlap with her, you two might be able to do the same degree, and do some classes together. University of Maine at Presque Isle is all self-paced and you can work at your own speed. I also believe Charter Oak will work out as well. Where would you and your wife would like to go is the question at this point? You both are way ahead of the game of most forum members. I recommend just applying at UMPI or COSC and getting your credits evaluated, to see how much work you have left. I actually transitioned into an IT role with the Fed Gov't and they are putting me through an associate degree for IT (The ill fated Eastern Gateway Community College program). The program will be cancelled after the fall term. Then I will begin chasing the bachelors probably through UMPI as you suggested. THANKS FOR ASKING! I will have her apply to the school and see where the credits fall but your suggestion sounds solid! I need to look into Pierpont. If an associates degree is complete does that create any additional opportunities/benefit with University of Maine at Presque? Sounds like it may be time for me to finally bite the bullet and go also! |
