Another Old timer needing direction - Groovygravy - 10-03-2022

It’s time to finish my degree, kids are raised, and two career changes, time to get back to my goal of getting a PhD.
Advice appreciated.

Florida resident
Graduated with AS in Nursing
Got a couple more credits after that
Currently own a thriving business of 17 years

I just got my transcript, but I need help navigating how to Clep or test out of most of the undergrad stuff.

My goal is ultimately Phd in Psychology
But I’m also interested in MBA since I’ve owned a business for so long.

I thought a doctorate in organizational and social psychology?

Help! Where do I even start?

You start with a bachelor's, but you knew that. Wink

More seriously, post all of your credits here and give us some idea on whether you want it fast or cheap, and how much time you have to devote to study. I would also suggest that you decide whether you want to pursue the MBA or the PhD in Psych first. There's not much in the way of overlap, so you'll be doing a lot more work if you try to do both at the same time.

Do you intend to become a psychologist and work clinically?

How about a Business bachelor's, then an MS in Psych, and then the PhD? Or, a bachelor's in Psych, then an MBA, then the PhD?

What do you want to do with the degrees? If you want to become a psychologist then you have to check your state requirements and start there. I'd start with a bachelor's degree in business and see how you feel about the courses. They're quite a bit different than being in business for yourself.

@Groovygravy, Welcome to the board, you've got so many things going on and it will get confusing as to how and what to work on first... it's best to provide more details as your post is short and sweet but doesn't contain all the info within the template and last post addendum here: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-New-to-DegreeForum-How-this-Area-works

With more details, we can try to create a road map for your journey, provide you some advice or direction, and you should also be open to back up options just in case one or more degrees you are looking at is not the real pathway you want to lead.  Again, with more info on your budget, commitments, and details from the link above, we can see possible paths for you to go.

Wow! Thanks for the speedy responses! I didn’t expect any at all! Ok I looked at the template and here are the missing things:

Location: Florida
I think I want to go with the Bachelor’s in Biz, then Masters in Psych to PhD, but I am completely open to possibilities.

I think I’d be happier expediting the bachelor’s and parts of the master’s. I don’t know if there’s a way to expedite the PhD, as far as fast or cheap? I will do what I need to do.

I have three full days a week to devote to studying and tests, possibly a fourth day. It’s a flex day.

My transcript
overall cum. Att: 95.0 ; Ern: 81.0; for gpa:81.0; pts: 256; GPA: 3.16

This is all I have, I haven’t delved into CLEP or SOPHIA or any of those yet… I didn’t want to get ahead of myself.

I am looking a TESU for a possible school, but again I’m open to all possibilities.

That end goal is a PhD, that is one thing for certain, and I just can’t stomach 7 years in a classroom writing essays about the Kardashians!, I have accumulated a ton of knowledge that I would like to apply to CLEP tests or the like.

Post your credits here.

School, semester- or quarter-based
course #, full course name, # of credits, grade if less than a C

repeat if you have more than 1 school.

We need to see every course. Then we can help you figure out what will be the cheapest/fastest option so that you can then get that master's and then a PhD. My vote will probably be the BA in Psych from TESU, and then an MBA from WGU; or a BLS w/Management minor at UMPI, and then a MA in Psych at Capella or somewhere like that.

The attached is everything I have, I just copied and pasted.[attachment=4234]

Easiest option is the following: UMPI BLS Minor of your choice + Psychology minor for $2800 if you finish in two sessions.  Ladder that up to Walden Masters Psych for $6000.  In regard to your MBA interest, you can throw in MBA & Masters of your choice by following the ENEB master thread and be done with it...

UMPI will be cheaper, easier, faster than my previous alternative option. Before UMPI was transfer credit friendly, my recommendation to Supermind was a TESU BALS Psych in 9 months for $6K, Walden Masters Psych in 1 term of 6 months (finished in 4.5 months) for $6K.

While you're working on your Walden, I suggest you join PSI CHI Honor Society when you start Walden not when you finish. Lastly, I've recommended UCN PhD Psych for $9000, we haven't decided yet, it's from Nicaragua and has a partnership with a German Institution...

Sounds reasonable. I’ll get to work on it and let you know when, not if, I hit a snag.
