Purdue Global Associates in IT - Planning Help - Pikachu - 08-23-2022
I'm planning to do an Associate's in IT (Associate of Applied Science in Information Technology with a Concentration in Programming and Software Development) from Purdue Global. I want to graduate quickly (preferably 1 term) and take the minimum courses possible at PUG. Main motivation is to parlay this Associate's into a top-up CS or IT degree in the UK.
90 credits are required. A maximum of 67 credits can be transferred.
I already have the AWS Cloud Practitioner cert and have almost completed the Google IT Support Professional cert. W3S PHP cert will be done soon too. I've attached a spreadsheet laying out what certs/courses I think I'll have to take and their equivalents at Purdue. I may have included 1 or 2 courses more than are necessary.
Also, do you all know if two concentrations are possible? I emailed PUG but their reply didn't address my query at all.

The bachelor's IT degree plan will show all the courses you need for the associate's degree

It looks like your cost for this associate's degree will be $8533.
PUG will only let you take 2 courses per term, so you won't be able to do everything in one term.
Given the cost/time, you may be better off going for the bachelor's IT degree.

Please confirm with the UK university first that this is feasible. Top-up degrees in the UK are usually the final year of study. Some universities also offer advance standing, where you enter the second year and skip the first.
Associates, per NARIC, can be considered approximately equivalent to a HNC/CertHE/NVQ 3 or 4, or the first year of study. Some universities will allow advanced standing on that basis, meaning you only have to do years 2 and 3. Not many will. For a large number of universities an Associates just gets you admission.
I wouldn't want you to be disappointed later after putting in the time and money to PUG. Especially when you can do NVQ 5 online in the UK which would give you access to the top-up route.

Here's the list of all Exceltrack programs, the Associates/Certificates are NOT included in the pricing. You should only go for the Exceltrack options as they are competency based and the fee is by terms you pay for. Link: https://www.purdueglobal.edu/student-experience/personalized-learning/

I'm aware. All the unis I've emailed bave said that I'll get admission into the 2nd year. Some have also said they'll be willing to consider for admission directly into top-up/last year by looking at past exp, certs, and other uni courses I've taken in addition to the Associate's. My strategy will be to combine this Associate's with courses from ASU plus one algo course from UND.
I don't think the HND/NVQ 5 route can be accelerated.

I don't know why I initially assumed it's like UMPI allowing any number of courses per term... I've now looked more into it and the first term will be 2 courses. After that, assuming I have a great GPA, I can request the program advisor for 3 or more courses for the next term. There were a few people on the Purdue Global subreddit who have done 3 or 4 courses in a term.
That would mean 2 terms, assuming the advisor will be reasonable...
Not as ideal as I thought...

I don't want to do a Bachelor's from PUG. I personally don't really like the "Global" brand - the Associate's would only be to get admission (and advanced standing in 2nd or final year -- to save money) elsewhere, not for my resume. The only thing that appeals to me about this Associate's is that I already have the certs (well, almost) and the content seems easy as well. I'm already familiar with most of the subject matter.
I had looked at TESU's ASNM but that one is very math oriented and my grades would be far lower in that program.
Doing a BABA from UMPI and then going for a Master's conversion in CS from the UK is also an alternative I could explore although the UMPI option would take more preparatory work.
Decisions... decisions...

No way would I spend that amount of money on an associate degree. You can spend much less than this on a bachelor's degree in the ExcelTrack. And it won't take much longer. I'd first find out if what the OP wants to do in the UK is actually possible.

I'm guessing you could enroll in the Exceltrack BSIT degree, but just take the courses you need for the AAS, and then do a single term at the end with the capstone as a standalone course.

So if you could do the first 4 courses in 1 term at PurdueGlobal for $2500, and then take the capstone for $1855, you'd be in for $4355. A bit pricy for an AAS, but not terrible.
The only thing I don't know is whether they allow you to choose your courses (my daughter is in a regular program there, and they let her take whatever she wants in whatever order). But if you can, then it's an easy degree to get.

In ExcelTrack, you can't take courses outside of your degree program. Every course isn't offered every session either. Your advisor has to approve your courses as well. Some courses have to be taken in a specific order. ExcelTrack is different than the semester/session based program.
