3rd degree at TESU - cardiacclep - 08-14-2022
In the past it was clearly stated TESU would NOT award an individual a 3rd BA/BS. It appears this policy has changed per their updated degree award policy. I have provided the award policy below. Does this now seem accurate that there is not bachelors limit as once stated? I am considering adding on a BA in Computer Science which was not available when I was doing my first and second go around at the bachelors level. Curious if I have this correct. Thank you.

Correct.....but what if one BA is TESU and one BS is from another university? Would the second earned TESU degree (third total) count toward the second TESU degree?
"The University will not award more than two Thomas Edison State University associate, baccalaureate or master's degrees to any one student."
The above is the official award policy. So again as example say someone had a BA in Biology from U of Flordia and a BA in Business Admin from TESU.....2 years later a career change presents itself and the student would like to complete a BA in Computer Science at TESU.....does this fit with the above stated policy? Thanks.

I asked them before I started my third bachelors (second to be awarded by TESU), and they gave me the okay saying they won't award more than two TESU bachelors, but my existing second Bachelors from WGU wouldn't be an issue.
So far so good, no advisors have said anything about it. But given the miscommunication and sometimes outright false information given out by TESU personel in the past, I won't be 100% sure I'm not wasting my time and money on this until they actually audit and award me the degree.
Well actually, I'm sure that i actually am wasting my time and money on this because I absolutely don't need it, even if they end up awarding it to me and everything works out ok.
Thankfully, almost all of it is my employer's money via tuition reimbursement, so I guess the financial loss is minimal and it's just my time. At least I'm learning a few new things, I guess.

When did you ask? And you have one TESU degree, one not TESU degree, and inquired about a second TESU degree (3rd overall)?
If this is the case I guess this is important. It is not only Jsd, I think quite a few people who already had one TESU degree are doing this right now.

Advisors at TESU are notorious for giving out incorrect/outdated information.
The wording seems pretty clear to me:

And the details talk about second or "successive" degrees.

i feel having a 3rd bachelors loses meaning at that point. If I was a hiring manager, I'd be more skeptical than impressed, to see 3 bachelors degrees in someone's CV. Certificate, Associates, Masters or even bootcamps would make more sense after the 2nd Bachelors.

You are entitled to your opinion, but everyone has different circumstances.
My husband initially got a checkbox degree for the military. Now he is applying to officer slots that require degrees with certain majors specifically listed in the title. So he has to go back and finish a degree in math, computer science, engineering or some other STEM subject on the list to be eligible. The military gives not one single f about boot camps or certificates, nor does the federal government. (I would know, I do have a hiring authority at a govt research institute...)
He is doing the BA-BSBA thing because there is life after the military, and the BSBA Accounting/CPA allows him to meet the CPA criteria for his home state. He cannot get a master's in Math without a bachelor's in it, and why would he pay for a master's accounting over doing a dual-degree at TESU for a fraction of the cost?
Sometimes, it just isn't about hiring managers... This is one example, but I have seen plenty of people on this board with their own reasons.
