Where to find Business Electives - jamar410 - 06-03-2022

Hello! I am two courses away from being able to register for my capstone course at Excelsior. All I need are 5 credits of Business Elective courses!

I have maxed out on courses from StraighterLine & Sophia (I have taken them/already transferred in those credits).

I saw that Study.com has a ton of Business Electives, but I would prefer to get them from another source due to the length of the courses/non-open-book style exams.

If I am unable to find any other Business Electives, I can finish the courses at Study.com but I would prefer alternatives!

Are there any other courses/organizations that have Business Electives that Excelsior would take?  Shy

Do you need UL, LL, or does it not matter? Without knowing what you have already taken, it's difficult to say. However, Excelsior accepts Davar, Coopersmith, LawShelf ( https://lawshelf.com/assets/pdf/Excelsior.pdf ), and should accept CIS Testing. See https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-Updated-Approved-Provider-Directory for more information regarding CIS Testing.

LawShelf is open book.

If you do happen to choose one of CIS Testing's business courses, let us know how it goes. We could definitely use more information regarding them.

Regardless of which provider(s) you choose, I would contact your academic advisor to ensure that they don't overlap with anything already have.

Wow, you are a lifesaver! It looks like LawShelf checks all of the boxes, I just have to check with my advisor.

I'm not sure why but my advisor usually ignores my emails, so I have to email the advising office directly to get a quick response.

A lot of the LawShelf courses will not come in as Business electives, so you definitely need to check to make sure the courses you want will work.

My advisor just sent me this:

"Regarding Law Shelf – these courses are not recommended for credit by ACE Learning Evaluators, so the answer is no, they will not meet the degree requirement for Additional Business Credit."

Law Shelf isn't ACE, they're NCCRS. Which Excelsior accepts. Excelsior has told Law Shelf that they accept Law Shelf courses. Your advisor is talking nonsense. Try sending them http://www.nationalccrs.org/organizations/lawshelf-educational-media and see what they say.

Thank you once again! I just now called the Academic Advising office and spoke with an Advisor that confirmed Excelsior accepts Law Shelf courses. This is sad to say, but I believe my advisor is praying for my downfall.

I really appreciate this!

LOL, I think the advisor was just looking at your ACE courses and though LawShelf was also "ACE" as you may not have mentioned to them they were NCCRS credits. Alas, it's sad that they didn't reference their own database, it should have been updated with LawShelf somewhere... Main thing is, you're approved to take the ones that are "business electives" as per the linked document.

Unfortunately, incompetent or otherwise bad advisors aren't restricted to just Excelsior. I think UMPI is the biggest/main school that actively wants it students to succeed! Everyone else tends to be lazy, at best. But UMPI isn't for everyone. You're soooo close to finishing at Excelsior. Good luck with your LawShelf courses.
