Python and SQL? What did you take & what did you like? (Dataquest or Datacamp or ?) - Dorothy44 - 05-24-2022 I see a lot of resources available. Some are listed on here already, but I was wondering if anyone has taken anything already that they liked for a certificate or more? Thank you. RE: Python and SQL? What did you take & what did you like? (Dataquest or Datacamp or ?) - rachel83az - 05-24-2022 Are you just wanting to learn Python/SQL for general employment purposes or for credit? Just to get familiar or general employment. RE: Python and SQL? What did you take & what did you like? (Dataquest or Datacamp or ?) - jsd - 05-24-2022 FreeCodeCamp has a python course. Sololearn also has some free ones but their more advanced courses are a little clunky from what I've seen, and tend to ramp up a little quickly without properly explaining some aspects (a complaint I've seen but I haven't used the platform enough to confirm). Udemy and PluralSight have some great paid options but are generally relatively cheap (and possibly free through a partnership with your school or work) RE: Python and SQL? What did you take & what did you like? (Dataquest or Datacamp or ?) - bluebooger - 05-24-2022 take this for free (sign up for the audit version) https://www.edx.org/course/introduction-computer-science-harvardx-cs50x its about 5 weeks of C, a week or 2 of python, then a few weeks of sql, javascript and html there are homework assignments its a tough course for someone with no experience https://www.edx.org/course/cs50s-introduction-to-programming-with-python this is a new course from them pure python -- no sql or anything else RE: Python and SQL? What did you take & what did you like? (Dataquest or Datacamp or ?) - Dorothy44 - 05-24-2022 Thank you JSD and bluebooger. Rachel and LevelUP have a few other free websites listed other places on here. I was hoping for someone that had some experiences with SQL and Python websites including the two I listed. RE: Python and SQL? What did you take & what did you like? (Dataquest or Datacamp or ?) - bluebooger - 05-24-2022 i never did the two you mentioned, but i did do both the harvard ones and they are great also did kaggle https://www.kaggle.com/learn and learned a lot the first harvard one you may think, "how much python can you learn in two weeks?" but since you've already done 6 weeks of C redoing some of the homework in python is super easy RE: Python and SQL? What did you take & what did you like? (Dataquest or Datacamp or ?) - bjcheung77 - 05-24-2022 It's great you're looking at Python and SQL. I would choose C, C++, Java, Python as these four are the ones most used at the current time. Here are some FREE resources you may be interested in as they are a small part of what I am reading. The first link W3schools has a few items including SQL as well, I think most of these links are free with freemium/paid options for more lessons, etc. W3schools Web Developer Tools: https://www.w3schools.com/ Code Academy: https://www.codecademy.com/ C++ Resources: Learn C++ - http://www.learncpp.com/ RE: Python and SQL? What did you take & what did you like? (Dataquest or Datacamp or ?) - ifomonay - 05-25-2022 I signed up and paid for both (datacamp and dataquest) for a full year. and then canceled. I learned, but nothing stuck. I also did Codecademy and freecodecamp. I learned (and retained) much more from those. I also signed up for Coursera plus, but it was a bad idea. Because of the all-you-can-eat thing, I signed up for a bunch of courses at the same time and tried to juggle them all, but in the end, I couldn't finish even one course. One other thing I learned. It's impossible to master everything. You have to focus on a select number of topics and deepen your expertise in fewer areas rather than acquiring shallow knowledge in a wider area. RE: Python and SQL? What did you take & what did you like? (Dataquest or Datacamp or ?) - Dorothy44 - 05-25-2022 Thank you everyone! I took two excellent college courses on C++ from our local CC, and one college course on a mix of SQL, Java, Cobol, etc. I was just looking for something that went more in depth on SQL and later Python. There just seems to be too many choices, and I wish one would stand out more as being the "best" overall. Thank you again for all the help! |
