FYI cannot add MIS minor to BABA in PM - FrHaseKopf - 05-12-2022
I have seen a few threads discussing the choice between BABA-PM and BLS-MIS for those looking for an IT-related degree. Someone has mentioned that it might be possible to add MIS Minor to BABA-PM since it covers all courses from MIS Minor.
Just got a reply from UMPI that you CANNOT add MIS Minor, because you need 9 different credits from your major to add a minor.
So the choices are only:
- BLS with MIS (MIS will be printed on diploma)
-BABA with PM (no MIS minor, only 'PM and Infosys' on transcript? not sure)

My unofficial transcripts say
Plan: Business Administration Major
Plan: Management Information Systems Minor

All of the MIS courses are completed in the BABA Project Management so you can't add the MIS minor.

Unfortunately it's not on the diploma for the BABA. Just the transcript.

All this talk about listing Minors on diplomas/transcripts had me go back and look at mine…. My transcript does list the major and minor. My diploma (from a different school) simply says “Bachelor of Arts”. There is no major nor minor listed. I am not sure if there is any “common practice”. But honestly, since I graduated in 1997 and have had a lot of job interviews over the years, not one single person has ever asked to see my diploma nor my transcripts in any job. It’s been tucked away in random drawers and boxes. I’ve come across it randomly. Last year, I came across it in an envelope with $6.00. (No clue). I’m thinking of finally framing the thing now that I have a home office. Otherwise……. I guess it doesn’t really matter that much.

I think it's a matter of personal preference. Some people frame and hang their degrees up. They're proud of their accomplishment and want to be able to see it.

Just a reminder, the BABA doesn't display the concentration on the diploma like the BAS or BLS degrees do, they show the minor concentrations you have taken. It won't really matter either as your transcript will list what your major and concentration/minors are anyways, it's redundant and practically no one will ask for the transcripts either... unless of course, they're requiring it for entry into something.
Furthermore, the BABA PM will not allow your to add the MIS because there are too many overlapping courses as the academic advisor mentioned to you, you can only add minors that are not already included in the degree. The PM degree actually is the PM & IS, which already has the exact same 6 courses required for the MIS minor. Adding MIS to it is telling them to add the 6 courses to your degree plan again!

You can still hang it and be proud regardless of whether it includes the major/minor/concentration.
