Graduation tickets - nmnyc11 - 03-08-2022 Hey All! I know that some here have said that they'd be interested in going to Graduation (in person) in May. I was also leaning towards it, so I was very excited to start receiving emails with graduation details. There were a few things that caught my attention, so I wanted to share. - It seems that the practice of shipping caps and gowns for free to anyone who wants to walk is over. I just ordered my cap and gown and it cost about $43 with shipping (for bachelors and associates). I think they were just sent out for free during the pandemic. - I was surprised that the email states that tickets to graduation have to be picked up in person in April, so I emailed them about this and explained that I'm a Your Pace student who lives 15+ hours away. They replied that I can designate someone else to pick them up for me, so I replied again that I don't know anyone at UMPI or anyone who lives in the state of Maine. After more back and forth, they said that I could pick up tickets at rehearsal the day before graduation... and to be honest, I'm feeling pretty disappointed about this and told them so. I just don't feel comfortable booking flights and hotel for my family without having the tickets in hand. I'd rather they charged me for shipping and just send them to me. I get that it's a small school that's really geared towards local students, and I still love the school overall. I'm just sharing my perspective and experience so others know what to expect. RE: Graduation tickets - ss20ts - 03-08-2022 Did you ask to pay to ship the tickets to you? The person you're emailing may not be knowledgable about YourPace. I did, and she was pretty familiar with YourPace. She told me that they won't ship them anymore because people would forget them at home, so the new rule is that they must be picked up on campus. RE: Graduation tickets - rachel83az - 03-09-2022 Too bad they don't use some sort of digital ticketing app. RE: Graduation tickets - ss20ts - 03-09-2022 (03-09-2022, 11:02 AM)nmnyc11 Wrote:(03-08-2022, 05:40 PM)ss20ts Wrote: Did you ask to pay to ship the tickets to you? I'd probably go over her head and contact Alex in the Registrar's Office since he's the one who sent the email. We ARE invited to participate in Commencement. If you get nowhere with them, let me know and I'll contact Dr. Rice who's the president of the university. RE: Graduation tickets - ashkir - 03-10-2022 I'm still debating whether or not going out because the graduation week is a finals week for my doctorate. It'd cost me over $500 just to fly out to Presque Isle, and then car rentals are freaken RIDIC right now over $800 for a few days. This isn't even counting hotel. I'm 3600 miles away. It should save you a few hundred bucks. RE: Graduation tickets - kidneysmasher - 03-10-2022 Hopefully they get this ironed out in the next couple of months. I know my wife is excited to walk and it's a big accomplishment that should be recognized. She did make me feel a little better in that she said they'd definitely hold the tickets for me to pick up the day before (I was concerned that they'd run out or have some other issue causing us to have wasted money on travel there for my family). I still think they should mail tickets to Your Pace students (and charge us for postage)... but I'm sort of debating whether to attend now as the cost is more than I had anticipated... especially if we have to be there during the day that Friday. I'd be afraid of running late and missing rehearsal and the ticket pickup, so I would now want to fly in on Thursday evening to be safe.(03-09-2022, 11:02 AM)nmnyc11 Wrote:(03-08-2022, 05:40 PM)ss20ts Wrote: Did you ask to pay to ship the tickets to you? RE: Graduation tickets - carebear_007 - 03-11-2022 I would love to attend graduation as well but won't be able to due to same reason as most here...financially. However, I would like to order a Cap and Gown. Would anyone happen to know if the Bachelor Complete Package includes Latin honor stole or cords? |
