Theoretical question: Adding ACE credits to a TESU transcript after graduation? - studyingfortests - 01-29-2022

Here's an interesting one:

A friend is finishing his SOS-110 and LIB-495 at TESU currently.  He's also applying to grad school, so putting off completing the degree isn't a good option.

Here's the thing: He would like to get certification as a CA drug/alcohol counselor, which requires about 10 classes. He's got about a third of them, and Coopersmith offers most of the ones he's missing (the couple others aren't too difficult to find.)  But he won't be able to do the Coopersmith courses before he graduates. And the certification body won't accept the courses if they aren't transcripted by an accredited school, thus the NCCRS transcript alone won't do the job.

Is there a way to add them on to his transcript post-graduation? If not, is there a workaround, like a certificate or something?

There are other options he has; the certification body will accept a certificate of completion from a proprietary, non-accredited SUD program, but those are expensive and not very good.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Post-graduation, no. But! If he adds a certificate to his degree program, he can stay enrolled and continue to add courses to his TESU transcript. He doesn't even have to necessarily work towards that certificate, but if he can find one that fits the courses he needs, then so much the better. It is free to apply as a TESU alumi. So once your friend graduates from TESU they could just apply for another degree or certificate program and then transfer the Coopersmith credits.  Here is the key, when you're an applicant (vs enrolled) you only get two transcript evaluations included, so your friend will want to make sure they have all the Coopersmith courses complete prior to sending the transcripts (I'd go as far as being done with them before the reapply).

They can also add an associate's degree that they don't plan to earn. It they do it before they graduate, their enrollment will continue until 12 months after their last course. At which time they can sign up for a TECEP if they need to extend it.

Awesome advice, thank y'all kindly. Smile

So just to clarify... if he adds a certificate or associates degree, it will not delay conferring of his bachelor's, but will basically keep the window open to add more ACE/NCCRS stuff to his transcript, correct?

Would the post-graduation transcript then just then show all of the credits (including the post-baccalaureate ones) in one place, and list the certificate/associates as an in-process thing?

He already has the one-credit TECEP that he did in, I think, September 2021, and he graduates in June. Does the TECEP alone keep the ability to add classes alive until September, or does he need to sign up for the cert/associates?

It's one year from the date of his last course or TECEP. If he started the capstone in February of 2022, for instance, that would give him until February of 2023. If he did the capstone in December and signed up for the TECEP again in May, he would have 1 year from the TECEP signup date.

I don't think a certificate or associate's degree would show up as in progress on transcripts, but it will show up under academic evaluations. The policy for earning an associate's degree after a bachelor's degree would also apply (minimum of 12 credits earned after the bachelor's degree is conferred in June 2022): https://tesu.smartcatalogiq.com/current/Undergraduate-Catalog/University-Policies-and-Procedures/Undergraduate-Academic-Policies/Degree-Policies/Award-of-Degrees

The transcript will show all credits completed (including any transferred in) even if they were not part of the conferred degree.  Planned (or in-progress) degrees or certificates don't show on the transcript, only those completed.

Sorry, perhaps I'm dense here. Smile

So, to make this work, he signs up for a certificate (looks like a psych certificate actually might only be a course or two away for him) prior to graduation, and then he has 12 months from January 22 (when he started his capstone) to complete it, even though he'll complete the undergrad and be awarded that in June '22, correct?

Yes, that should be correct!
