UMPI BLS- Project Management - uncapentin - 01-10-2022 Hi all, Trying to help my SIL finish a bachelor degree. It will help her a great deal with her income earning potential. She has an AA from a CC. Her credits are listed on the attachment with grades. As far as I can see, it looks like the BLS-Project Management at UMPI would be faster than the BABA-Proj Man. I think it'll be doable for her in 2 8 week sessions but as life happens, could become 3. She will be applying for financial Aid/scholarships just in case she could qualify. Her work cut her hours back and she's lost around $1,600 in income because of it. She's already working in a capacity to seamlessly become a project manager since the Bachelor is the only holding her back. ( She's already basically doing the job, just not with the income) I told her to start Spanish 1, so she is, tomorrow. She may need American Gov so told her to expect that too. IF you all think UMPI will accept her data courses and "wilderness" related classes, then she should be good to go and apply very soon to UMPI. The Proj Management core is 6 courses. She'll need another 4 to round it out to 10, so the Humanity course would be 1 of those. Are there any others y'all feel like she can throw in to finish out the 10 UMPI courses ? I can see any she's missing in the gen ed's so just electives ? Perhaps a few business courses in case she wants to change or add to her degree ? Thanks, Carla (01-10-2022, 10:43 PM)uncapentin Wrote: Hi all,Forgot to add: I doubt they will take the Fund of Alg course ( 070 ) so that will put her at 80 credits basically. Should she do Spanish, Amer Gov and maybe a business course or the Greek Philosophers ? RE: UMPI BLS- Project Management - LevelUP - 01-11-2022 "Students must take a minimum of 24 credit hours of UL electives beyond courses taken for the general education core and minor requirement & most of the UL courses must be taken at UMPI." https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/UMPI_BLS_Management_Degree_Plan By the time you run around to grab all these UL classes, you end up not saving much time at all versus a BA Business Admin MIS/Project Management degree. Maybe a few weeks. I usually advise getting the best degree you can so you don't have to worry about looking back, wishing you spent a little more time to get the best degree you could have earned. Unless you know something we don't, such as an asteroid, will hit the Earth in a couple of years, and a few weeks will make a difference in the grand scope of life. Whatever you decide, I would make a spreadsheet to plan out your remaining classes. Yes, I know about the 24 UL requirement. I also know she has to have 30 Cr through UMPI. There wasn't a plan to run around getting upper level courses since she will take those at UMPI. Basically, I'm asking if anyone thinks UMPI will accept her data- office admin courses listed on the pdf first and her "wilderness" type electives. I explained the degrees to her and she's satisfied with the BLS-Project Management degree. I plan to try to map out the BABA-Project Man also just so she can see what that would mean in terms of classes/time. Since I doubt an asteroid is going to hit the earth anytime soon, that's not on her radar butGetting a degree that's going to give her the position and earning potential she's after, is. RE: UMPI BLS- Project Management - rachel83az - 01-11-2022 How old are the data/office admin credits? Lotus 1-2-3 is pretty old, so I'm guessing these credits are more than 5-10 years old? If so, they probably won't accept the credits (they might accept them as electives, but I'm not sure about that). The wilderness electives will probably be accepted as electives. The important part is that that she has her GECs covered. Let's see: 1A: Yes 1B: Yes 1C: Take American Government 1D: Yes 2A: Covered by Psych 2B: Covered by Psych 2C: Yes (English comp) 2D: Take at UMPI 2E: Should be covered by one of the music classes 3A: Algebra 3B: Algebra 3C: Covered by Biology 3D: Geology 3E: Biology (maybe Geology, doesn't matter though) 4A: UMPI 4B: English Comp 4C: I see no Ethics or Philosophy. Take Ancient Greek Philosophers @ Sophia + Intro to Ethics. You need Ethics to meet this requirement, but you need Greek Philosophers to pass Ethics. 5A: Sociology 5B: History 5C: Foreign Language, already taking at InstantCert 5D: I think this is covered by Intro to Ethics 5E: American Government @ InstantCert While she has a Sophia membership, she might as well also take anything else that doesn't overlap with what she's already done (I.E., don't take Algebra again) and that also doesn't have any Touchstones: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Sophia.org_Equivalency_List I would recommend Communications at Work, though, since the Touchstone only takes 10-15 minute to complete and it gets graded super fast. DO NOT complete Sophia's Project Management! Beware, red alert, etcetera! Completing Sophia's PM course will only make the later courses more difficult; the replaced course has a final project that you NEED for the later UL courses. It's better to wind up with a few extra and possibly unused credits than wind up having to spend an extra session at UMPI because you're 3 credits short of graduation. As long as they are college courses, they should accept them. The one they may not accept is intro algebra since that is a sub 100 level course. Did the biology have a lab? UMPI requires lab with science. Your SIL doesn't need too many more credits. The next UMPI term starts 03/14/22 which is possible to make that date easily. I suggest working on the courses that are for sure needed, then transferring the courses into UMPI and seeing if there are a few courses left to do. RE: UMPI BLS- Project Management - rachel83az - 01-11-2022 Also, I agree with the idea of a BABA vs. BLS. You won't save that much time at UMPI, if any, by going for a BLS in this instance. The wilderness courses are phys ed courses and are not transferable into these degrees. The Lotus courses are really old and at best will be LL general electives. RE: UMPI BLS- Project Management - uncapentin - 02-14-2022 Here's the "in the process" plan so far, for the BABA Project Management degree. If I can rework the BLS plan I will send it in also. Yes, before it get's pointed out, I did use one of the plans which were shared. ( I love that starting point !) I also didn't go by everything listed as UMPI classes but used the GEC requirements which I printed out. I'm not so sure a few are listed right because they are being used more than twice. Is that even allowed ? I listed the Spanish 1, which she just finished ( she had several issues with that class, one of which was a browser I believe ) and Amer. Gov which is underway. So: --It looks like the GEC is good except Ethics needs to be completed. --Once that's done, there should be** 45 credits that satisfy the GEC. ( 46 is listed because of 1 showing for the UMPI seminar class ----which I'm unclear on actually earning a credit. No matter ) --How do the required UMPI courses for the Business and Project management core look ? -- I have two courses with question marks, should they be completed as laid out or no ? --The electives........hoping all are accepted, how does this area work ? She still needs more to fill 60-ish credits ? Does the extra count toward this area, if so that's another 5. I am giving her previous info given out in this thread such as a class or two to knock out that don't have touchstones. IF she takes Ancient Greeks through Sophia, that'll be an additional 3 credits toward the electives...... ---It looks like 24 credits will be UL and there are more than 30 which should be taken at UMPI. Brain overload. RE: UMPI BLS- Project Management - ss20ts - 02-14-2022 4A will be completed by the 0 credit YourPace orientation class. It's required by everyone. It takes like an hour to complete. The Intro to Comm class from the community college probably won't come in as PCJ 215 Business Communication. It will probably come in as PCJ1XX which is a communication elective. Forget BUS359. It's not available at this time. It's not required for most students when it is offered. You have 2 courses listed as Intro to Computers in the electives. Some courses in the electives I don't think they will accept like the work experience. Where did she complete Meteorology? Does it have a lab? 3E MUST have a lab. What's Expository Writing? What's Literature Based Research? Are these like Eng 100 & 101 at the community college? American Government will fill 1C. She doesn't have Business Communication. She has Intro to Communication. 2 different classes. I'm assuming not needed. The CIS class may have been a repeated class, I'll have to double check since it's listed twice. Could just be a goof. She didn't take meteorology. It was listed on the plan I downloaded. I used the GEC resource plan to go by, for the specific classes accepted. I have Geology listed which is a 4 cr class and Bio L, which also had a lab, worth 4 cr. Yes, they are like English Comp I and II. There's a Lit class listed in electives. Repeating the first question about Business Comm, was unsure about that working. The one at Sophia works, if memory serves, right ? How do the major courses look. Would the way they are laid out be a good route to go ? |
