BALS or BA in ART with Local RA Design Cert?? - Zavala - 11-01-2021 Our youngest is about to turn 18 and will be graduating from HS in the spring. She took a handful of Sophia courses when they were free back in 2020. She seemed to enjoy them, and did very well. She is exceptionally artistic and interested in potentially doing UI/UX design work, likely starting out with a certificate. But she's not very interested in a four-year degree. Abd in that line of work, she wouldn't need a degree to start, but I very much want her to at least get some form of Bachelors under her belt. So I'm wonder if there's a way to marry up a bunch of Sophia for the GenEd, along with something like one of these local programs in Branding or Design to get her there? My older two and I all did TESU programs, so I'm biased towards that approach. It seems like the Community College courses would help with new RA requirement. But I'm not sure how to solve UL course requirement of their BALS degree. Then I started looking at their BA in Art and wondered if she could do something similar with in-person classes at a local school. Thoughts? RE: BALS or BA in ART with Local RA Design Cert?? - rachel83az - 11-01-2021 The BA in art MUST be completed via RA UL credit from a (presumably local) school. There's really no other way. It's a bit expensive, compared to other TESU degrees. But if only an art degree will do, the price isn't terrible. RE: BALS or BA in ART with Local RA Design Cert?? - bjcheung77 - 11-01-2021 Since your family is a TESU fanatic, it's alright to continue with a degree from them! I would recommend having flexibility in the degree so your daughter doesn't get bored just in case the "ART" classes aren't really hitting her buttons because she's more into UI/UX design which is more computer based. I suggest doing a BALS with the Humanities concentration, as she can take lower level art courses for her general education and electives for the 30 RA credits and use ACE alternative credits for the remaining requirements. I suggest working on the free Cybersecurity and paid TEEX CJ courses for gen ed/elective credits as well. I would work on three things, 1) Certs, 2) Degree and 3) Experience.... She should also take the inexpensive Google Certs listed on this thread, for credit and experience/knowledge of the content/materials. We have a bunch of options nearby, as you say none inexpensive. Wow @bjcheung77... great tip on the Google cert. We were looking at that as a very affordable option, but I had no idea it was ACE credit also now, thanks! Yes, the cert first to build to the degree was my thought too. Appreciate the insight. RE: BALS or BA in ART with Local RA Design Cert?? - LevelUP - 11-02-2021 Doing the Art certificate first, Then UMPI BLS seems like a good fit since that program takes 62 elective courses. (should take all the art courses) https://online.umpi.edu/programs/ Most people can complete UMPI in 2-3 terms 4-6 months. (after transferring in 90 credits) RE: BALS or BA in ART with Local RA Design Cert?? - Zavala - 11-03-2021 (11-02-2021, 01:15 AM)LevelUP Wrote: Doing the Art certificate first, Thanks, that looks like a really good option also! |
