Construction-related degree - NoStudentNoCry - 08-16-2021
I am trying to help family member to get degree related to construction. Something like construction management or civil engineering. Technology something-something will do the trick too.
For now I can only think of Associates in construction management from Ashworth College but if anyone could point me to another direction - please do. We looked at Penn Foster's construction technology associates, but their program is very confusing.
Starting conditions:
- No college credits so far, but he started working on Sophia classes (currently is taking English Composition I and College Algebra)
- Not in military
- Does not qualify for Pell grant
- Not a union member, but might be able to join in 2022
- The cheaper the better
- Preferably online or low-residency
- National accreditation is OK

Not exactly easy to do cheaply but perhaps TESU's Technical Studies degree would work? The trick would be finding UL construction/engineering credits somewhere.

Not sure if he is only looking for a AA/AAS but SNHU has a BS in Construction Management. Actually, I was wrong, they only have a Masters's degree online.
The Open University in the UK has a 3 year Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) online. He might be able to transfer in a decent amount of credits if he completes a Pierpoint AAS first. A UK degree might not work for him though. And not exactly "construction".
So many community colleges around, you can probably find something if you search around some. Can't he just join the military instead? Get paid and trained up for free.

Two words "Project Management". What I would suggest is that they do something similar to your path but with "Project Management" as their minor.
They could go the UMPI 'Bachelor of Liberal Studies - Project Management Minor' route, but as I said I would suggest they follow your path and get the BAS. They would have to get at least 12 RA credits to earn the Pierpont AAS BOG; there are plenty of low cost options here and guidance on getting the required graded credits needed (I think a recent post said 1 graded RA credit needed). If they were up to it another option is the 'Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration – Project Management Concentration' at UMPI. There are plans here for going the Business Admin route. Again, as I stated, when it comes to construction management it is all about "Project Management".
Note: It is my understanding that if you go to UMPI for Project Management you do not want to take Sophia's PM course, as the courses at UMPI for PM build off each other.

I Found this in another thread, CSU Global has an undergraduate certificate in Construction Management. 4 of the courses can be tested out via their Self-Study Assessment Courses.
There is a thread somewhere on the forum where someone posted about a community college (Michicagn or Wisconsin I believe) with a lot of online trade school courses. So with the CSU Global certificate, NCCRS credits, and some ACE credits he can probably build his own program with the Pierpont AAS BOG then transfer to UMPI and do a BAS with a Project Management minor as Allvia suggested. Some of Penn Fosters courses may transfer too.

Why not just max out alt credits and do a CSU Global bachelor’s degree in business management or project management with a specialization in construction management?

CSU Global has a Construction Management specialization not certificate. It's basically a minor.
LSU has a bachelor's degree, post baccalaureate certificate, and master's degree in construction management. All of these are available online. I don't know what their policy is on ACE credits.

Southern Mississippi says they have the only 100% online Construction Management Bachelors degree in the US. Could that be true?

There are so many ways of doing this, I would just recommend getting an Associates and laddering to a Bachelors (in anything, such as a general/liberal studies or business, etc). To finish it off, I would recommend getting a Level 7 Post Graduate Diploma in Construction Management instead to supplement the Bachelors. Here are a couple of Ofqual recognized organizations: https://www.nocn.org.uk/products/qualifications/ and https://www.proqualab.com/qualifications/level/level+7/? and they are the "awarding" agencies, not the institution/school, you just need to find a school that offers these courses for cheap as they range in price... it really varies depending on what type of education and quality they provide...

The OP specifically said "The cheaper the better" - The would almost certainly rule out the CSU Global bachelor path; epscially when you add in the "Does not qualify for Pell Grant"
