Haiti President Assassinated! OMG! - bjcheung77 - 07-07-2021

I read about the political instability of Haiti, but didn't know it was that bad.  There are always two sides of the story, some people think he was wanting to change the constitution of the country to become more authoritarian or a dictatorship under his rule.  Yet others think the current state of having two "parties" doesn't help streamline the government as the President may bump-heads with the Prime Minister.  It's a mess, hopefully they can get through this peacefully, please stop the violence!   Wiki is already updated! The whole country us now in a major state of chaos. No one knows who's in charge of anything. His wife was also shot. I just hope a hurricane doesn't come along and wipe out what little infrastructure they seem to have. Or another earthquake.

Many developing countries have opposition groups that try to overthrow the government. Some of them are successful, while others are not. Haiti is just another example.

If Haiti gets worse, it may be a great opportunity for another nation to take control of it. France could be interested. After all, they both speak the same language and the EU nation already owns one in South America.

No it's far worse now because there's no leadership at all.

It’s sad, isn’t it?  They seize capital buildings with the intent to murder legislators and prevent the transfer of power, they plot to take regional governors hostage and usurp regional authority, they create vast conspiracy theories that ascribe their leader with messianic powers while presenting their opposition as doing the bidding of Satan. I am glad such things could never happen in the United States.  The United States invades countries for that type of thing…

The initial news story sounded like an episode of The Blacklist.  A small, heavily armed group appear from nowhere, break into the President's residence in the dead of night, murder the President and then disappear into the night.
