Keep on aiming high.... - Mateo1 - 04-17-2008 Hello fellow testers, just dropping by to share with you the good news. I was accepted to law school (ABA accredited) and will start this coming August. I have a lot to thank to all of you who provided me with the best advise from the beginning of the undergrad journey. Without your support and encouragement, I would probably be still deciding [and doubting] wether a degree from Excelsior was legit and recognized. I would really like to shake some hands [I'm a bit old school] with the people in this forum, but this is the closest I can get. You guys are awesome! And finally, for those still having doubts about taking this road to your degree, jump in, enjoy it, and keep on aiming high. Willing to share more about your journey?? Keep on aiming high.... - Mateo1 - 04-17-2008 Hello and thanks for all your kind words. To answer a few of the questions, Bmills, I was accepted to Cleveland State so far. I am on a waiting list in a couple more that have not made their final decisions yet. Marshall, we all got the Clep-mania at one point or another and it becomes a bit of an obsession. If you look back at some old posts, you'll get a laugh about this issue. Once you're done testing out, you get this void in your life just like some sort of addict. Also, while you do a search of old posts for a laugh, look for the Dave Letterman's 10 list about clepping or something of that nature. It is pretty funny. Cookderosa, I assume you're asking about my journey to the undergraduate degree. I will summarize as best as I can. I'm 40, an immigrant that came to this country about 15 years ago, I'm married and have two little kids. I went to school back in my home country [more than 20 years ago] til' what would be equivalent here to the first two years of college [general ed]. I decided to get a degree here and started to get all wrapped-up about getting my credits transferred and credentials evaluated etc., etc. To make it short, I gave up on that and started searching for a way to test out of some subjects. Finally, I found the well known websites about getting a degree in six months and the 4-week B.A and so on. After many sleepless hours of research, I went back and forth about the cleps until I took my first one, Humanities in Aug. 07. From there, I applied the fast and furious method [not recommended for everybody] and got hooked on the test-out mania. To fast-forward, my last exam was Feb. 5 or 6, 08' and was granted the B.S from EC in March. The intersting part of all this is that I took the LSAT before I even took the first Clep. Anyhow, that's my journey in a nutshell. And again, I could not have done it without this forum and the priceless advise I got from the posters and moderators. This forum is, without a doubt, the most valuable tool for people pursuing an education via the non-traditional way. I'm sure that sooner or later, this will be the mainstream way. Or maybe we should keep it our secret shhh... No, I think the more, the better. This is providing a way for many people, who could not do it otherwise, to get an education and, better yet, accomplish their dreams. Thanks again for your great words and good night! I think it's a fantastic testimony that you tested out of your EC degree and managed to get accepted at an ABA law school. I think it's just such a great encouragement!!!!! Did you ever get any negative comments regarding your testing through this process? Secondly, starting law school at 40 is both scary and admirable. I wish you really really the best. |
