Hello Babey and welcome to InstantCert! My name is Marshall and I am a relative newbie myself.

I am no guru or anything like that, but from looking at your post, I'd say a Renaissance Degree!!!!!! When I looked at all of your certificates...I said, "Damn!" That's alot!!!

All jokes aside....what I would suggest you do is take a career assessment quiz on Tests and Quizzes - Tickle Personality Tests. You'll have to search for it but it should be easy to find. Or just type in "Career Assessment" in Google or the search engine of your choice. By taking this quiz, I believe you will have a great idea for what career you might be better suited for. And with this information you will be better prepared to decide on a major. I did this years ago and it said mine was business so that's why I'm majoring in Business Administration. I wanted to major in Business since I was a kid because my Favorite Aunt did, but as I got older I didn't want to choose something just because of that. Just because that was her purpose doesn't necessarily make it mine. So I took the test/assessment just to see what my strong suits were and what careers I might be best suited for. I wasn't too surprised when Business popped up!!!

I hope this info helps you in some way. Good luck to you in all of your future educational pursuits and peace be with you. And I hope you stick around because this is an awesome sight. Lots of nice people on here who are willing to go the distance with you. People who take great strides and go to great lengths to assist you when you need it.

From a loyal degree seeker,

Marshall

Ok, I would have to ask a few questions:

First, did you earn college credit for any part of any of these certificates?

Second, if you did earn college credit, was it from a regionally accredited college or a nationally accredited college?

Third, scour the ACE website to see if any classes or programs you have done have already been evaluated for credit.

After those three questions- you'll know where you stand. Whatever THAT number of credits is, that is your starting point. It might be zero- but even if it is, you can use CLEP and DSST exams to race through most/some/or all of your degree. You can use the free FEMA credits to fill 100% of your free electives.

Also, are you going to use your degree for advancing in your career? If so, what type of degrees do the people in your field hold? What about the managers? District managers? Administrators? Owners? Look upward, plan for the future.

If a liberal studies degree works as a worker, but you'd need a business degree to be an administrator- go for the business degree. Everyone says liberal studies is the fastest, and it might be, but faster by how much? A few months maybe. By utilizing CLEP, DSST, FEMA, and online courses- it's all fast.

WELCOME to the board, I look forward to hearing from you!

cinderly Wrote:If you are merely looking for the "fastest, easiest" degree possible, go for a BS Liberal Studies or BS General Business (although I think I read that the latter option is going away or changing.)

The only thing changing about the Excelsior BS General Business is the name. It is just going to be a BS in Business. The concentrations are going to be listed as a BSB with a concentration in _____ where now thet are listed as BS in Marketing or BS in Accounting or whatever. None of the requirements have changed...yet.

HI

My CPS gives me about 32 credits
Medical Office Assistant - 42.5 CEUs
My other two courses with Penn Foster gives me CEUs and I just found out that it's hard to convert those to College Credits. Is this true?

My CAP Exam should give me an additional 10 credits if I pass, it's my 3rd time taking it.

I don't know what the others will give me.

I need help:confused:

It's ok, this is all new. In a very short amount of time you will get the hang of how to plan your degree and get going on a direct path. Your CEUs may or may not be able to be used for college credit. Your only luck will be if they have been ACE evaluated. I wouldn't count on it, consider it a bonus if they are.
I share your frustration. LITERALLY. I had an associate degree that was the top of the top in my field.....at the time. Well, times change. I had TONS of CEUs, attended conferences, conventions, seminars, and attended classes like crazy. I felt very on top of my game...until a few culinary programs added a bachelor degree option. While chefs really don't have bachelor degrees (yet), you start to see the human resource people adding it as criteria for job searches. What they "mean" is hospitality and restaurant, but they don't know the difference- so they say bachelor degree in culinary arts. Anyway, all my hours and hours of hard earned education essentially amounted to zero. I wanted CREDIT for all the time and effort I put into my education. I was exactly where you are. \ Thousands of CEUs may not even amount to an associates degree! It's time for you to shift focus and spend a bit of time on this credential. Push some of the "nice to have" onto the back burner, and get crackin' on the credit classes. They are NO HARDER than a non credit course- so you deserve a degree and recognition for your efforts.

Now, the question remains, what type of degree are you interested in? You may get more utility out of your CPS credits in an occupational type degree- or you can start on a business degree. Any ideas?

I'm interested in the Bachelor of Arts- Liberal Studies at Thomas Edison State College.

Do I have to enroll now or can I just work on the credits by taking the required clep exams or dsst, and then enroll when I have enough credits?Rolleyes

You don't have to enroll, but you should apply. This will involve paying the $75 fee and then formally requesting all of your transcripts be mailed to TESC. This is a pain, but the only way to see whats what. TESC will collect all of your transcripts and do an academic evaluation for your BA degree. All of the credit earned/needed in each category will be shown. THAT is your tool. Print it out and go to town. Once you are within what you feel to be 12 months of completion- you enroll and pay the enrollment fee. It's good for 1 year, so if you don't make it you'll have to pay for a second year. (motivation!)
