I went out on my own and wasted lots of time and money! - Tennesseegirl87 - 05-03-2021 Hi guys, I originally discovered this forum years ago. I have since then been all over the place with what I want to "do." I've wasted so much time and money. I really just want to finish my bachelors degree and change careers at this point. I'm interested in almost any degree for a professional career. I'm located in West Tennessee, our criminal justice sector is flooded and almost impossible to get a job in. I'd like to lean more towards project management, business administration, science or engineering. Right now, Grantham is looking really good to me. I am currently enrolled in ASU but it is SOOO expensive. I haven't registered for a class yet. Here is what I have. I will warn you, I've been ALL over the place on this journey. study.com BU 213F Personal Financial Management (3) EN 113 Composition & Rhetoric (3) ALEKS MA 113A Intermediate Algebra (3) MA 113B Statistics (3) New Mexico junior college CJ 213F Criminalistics-Intro Forensics (3) GO 213 American Government (3) PS 113A College Success (3) PS 213 Child Psychology (3) SO 213 General Sociology (3) BI 114 General Biology I (4) BI 124 General Biology II (4) CJ 223C Narcotics & Dangerous Drugs (3) ED 222 Health, Safety, Nutrition (2) ME 111 Medical Terminology I (1) mu 213 Music Appreciation (3) BI 224 Microbiology (4) EN 123 Composition & Literature (3) AR 113Art Appreciation (3) HI113United States History to 1877 (3) University of Alabama HD 302 Child Dev-Adolescence (3) RHM 185 Intro Meetings Events Ind (3) HD 401 Cult Influ Child Yth Fam (3) HES103 Distance Compass HES (3) HY 101 Western Civ To 1648 (3) University of Maryland Global campus PACE- 111s Program and career exploration (3) Biol 160 Human Biology (3) RE: I went out on my own and wasted lots of time and money! - rachel83az - 05-03-2021 You might be interested in UMPI. 2 or 3 terms and you'd be done! Check https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-6-Month-UMPI-BA-in-Management-for-3-222 for a list of Sophia classes that you would need for a business degree. If you go this route, do not take the Project Management course at Sophia. You could also do a BSBA at Charter Oak. I think you could do concentrations in Project Management, Human Resources, or General Business. RE: I went out on my own and wasted lots of time and money! - dfrecore - 05-03-2021 So, Grantham is an NA school - and I'm not sure why you'd choose that over anything else. So I'm going to go with the usual suspects here instead, because those will be the cheapest in general (and these are all RA schools which is a better choice in general). TESU, COSC & EC (the Big 3): a business degree will range somewhere between $3200-$6600 for tuition at the school for 6-7cr, and then any additional costs will be the remaining credits you'll need from outside sources. UMPI has a competency-based program, and you can probably finish a business degree w/a concentration in Project Management for less than $5k. I can help you with a degree plan - but you used course numbers and course names as what one of your schools brought them in as, rather than what they were at each individual school, which makes it hard to figure out. Like, I'm assuming "BU 213F Personal Financial Management (3)" is Study.com's FIN 102: Personal Finance, but I don't know which English Comp course you took at Study.com that whatever school brought in as EN 113. So your better bet is to use the course numbers and course names that the original school called things. Also, you need to put the completion date for the English Comp course you took at Study.com because TESU will only accept it based on a certain completion date. Also put the date you completed ALEKS' Intermediate Algebra course, because that stopped being ACE-approved at some point. The completion date will make a difference. Once you fix that, others will be able to chime in as well. I will work on fixing that now. I picked Grantham for the engineering degree because when I read through the threads it was ABET certified and that's what I was leaning toward at some point in all of my confusion. I see you're almost done with your Associates or have you completed it already? I think you should send your transcripts to PierPont and get yourself an BOG AAS with an emphasis in Biology or Natural Sciences if possible. It will only cost you transcripts and a little time... it'll be an ego boost and get you to the next level with a bit more momentum. I think having an AAS and BA/BSBA would be great... Next up, decide on your degree and school. It seems we're moving from Biology to Engineering, Grantham to ASU, to the Big 3 and CBE programs... you need to sit down and decide on that as it determines the course of action and courses needed to complete that specific degree at that institution of your final choice... Furthermore, I noticed you may be eligible for Pell Grant/Fin Aid... are you going to apply? Final thought, since you're a decade younger than me, I think you should do a double double at TESU! Haha, get the BSBA for the check in the box degree, and get a BALS NSM with Bio/CS/Math for your future Masters degree. Take 16-18 residency credits using your Pell Grant and only take courses that can't be transferred into the degrees... and that is *IF* you got the energy/money/time. If you've already got a bunch of assorted credit, you may not want to essentially have to "start over". RE: I went out on my own and wasted lots of time and money! - dfrecore - 05-03-2021 I think for someone who wants ANY degree, and already has a bunch of credit, the COSC BSLS with a psych/business concentration is an easy win. In this case, you just need the following: Sophia Public Speaking 4 business courses Study.com Business 318: Management Ethics (gets you an UL, a business, and an Ethics in 1 shot) 3 UL Business courses 3 UL psych courses Then transfer everything in, sign up for the cornerstone and the capstone, and you're done ________________________________________________________________________________________ UMPI's BSLS with a minor in Project Management is also a good one. Take the following: Sophia Ethics Environmental Science Any non-duplicate course Then transfer everything to UMPI, and take 10 courses there: Foreign language requirement Hands-on art requirement the 6 minor core requirements any 2 courses that will go in free electives And you're done. ____________________________________ Between the 2 schools, it's a toss-up as to ease, speed, and price - very close. They should both take all of your courses, there's tons of space in free electives for everything you have in either degree plan. I think the main reason to do UMPI is the Project Management minor. ____________________________________ If you want a true business degree, you will throw out a lot of credits, and have to take the business core. A lot of that can be done via Sophia and Study.com, so it's not terrible, but it's definitely not going to be as fast as a BSLS/BLS degree, which I would call a "business lite" type of degree. I'm going to jump into this from a somewhat different angle. In my own opinion, the four areas you highlighted (PM, Biz, Science, Eng) are all really quite different from each other and my main suggestion is that you narrow it down further so that no more false starts occur. You would like a career but what would you like to do? How do you want to spend your time? What skills do you want to develop? What might be enjoyable? I believe that if you can decide where you want to go, the proper path becomes easier to find among the others. Well that was a lot lol and very informative, I am going to have to sit down and go through all of those suggestions!! Thank you for them I am all over the place, I just get easily excited then equally bored. I can get a pell grant, I usually get about $1300 off per semester. I do have an Associate of Science from NMJC but I'm going to look into pierpont anyways, I can have multiple right?! |
