MSCS options? - Deteloca - 04-07-2021 I have one more class to finish before starting my TESU capstone and cornerstone. I'm primarily looking at MSCS options with a concentration in data science or big data since that would option up new jobs but the concentration isn't required. I'm mainly pursuing a graduate degree to immigrate. Many countries offer the most points to Masters holders. A masters would be great for a job, too. My undergraduate will be in Liberal Studies - Math and Natural Sciences. At the moment the top contenders are: University of West Florida https://onlinedegrees.uwf.edu/online-degrees/ms-masters-computer-science/ Mississippi State University https://online.msstate.edu/cse/ University of Sunderland https://online.sunderland.ac.uk/online-course/msc-computer-science-with-data-science/ Wrexham Glyndwr University https://online.glyndwr.ac.uk/msc-computer-science-with-big-data-analytics/ I'm debating if the UK programs would look unusual on my resume to US or foreign employers. They both look great and I like that I can pay for each module as I go, thereby eliminating the need for loans. I've been a software engineer for 3 years and while I've had a nice career without a degree, a CS degree would increase my opportunities. Any opinions or other schools are more than welcome. RE: MSCS options? - rachel83az - 04-07-2021 I don't think a degree from the UK would look bad or unusual. Those are nice prices, too. RE: MSCS options? - bluebooger - 04-07-2021 > My undergraduate will be in Liberal Studies - Math and Natural Sciences did that include linear algebra ? if it didn't you might have a difficult time finding a school that will admit you into a data science concentration RE: MSCS options? - Deteloca - 04-07-2021 (04-07-2021, 09:41 AM)bluebooger Wrote: > My undergraduate will be in Liberal Studies - Math and Natural Sciences Yes. I took a lot of math but not quite enough enough for a math degree. I took linear algebra knowing I'd need it for a masters. RE: MSCS options? - Alpha - 04-07-2021 This is not my area but here are a couple of choices that are down at the lower end of the expense continuum Master’s Degree in Data Science (edx.org) Data Science | University of London My sense is that there are LOTS of choices so you shouldn't have to compromise much in your final decision. Good luck RE: MSCS options? - asianphd - 04-07-2021 Georgia Tech MS Analytics Total cost $9900 + Institutional & Technology Fee https://pe.gatech.edu/degrees/analytics Georgia Tech MSCS ~$7000 <- it is a very good deal http://omscs.gatech.edu/ RE: MSCS options? - bjcheung77 - 04-07-2021 There are plenty of options in the US and UK, all under 10K-15K if you search for them, I also highly recommend the MOOC options with Cousera, Edx, FutureLearn, Udacity and Upgrad... you should do a search on the forum, I pointed to these. Fort Hays, has a MSCS degree as well as many more, here's an example of a post of mine: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-Georgia-Southwestern-MBA-MSCS-257-grad-credit and the MOOC's, here's a recent post: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-Macquarie-Global-MBA?pid=333347#pid333347 |
