Cornerstone and capstone taken together? - Gradgreat - 12-19-2020

An advisor at COSC told me that it’s not possible to take the first part of the capstone the same time as the cornerstone. Is there a way to get that done? Does anyone have any experience with appealing that or talking to someone at the college who might make that exception?

TESU lets you take them together. COSC does not. There are ways to arrange it so that you only have to pay for one semester's fees but you still have to take the courses separately.

That's means two terms?

Yes, two terms. One semester. If you time it correctly.

At COSC, they have 2 8-week terms each semester.

Oh, that is new for me; term and semester isn't the same thing, in south america and Europe we only have semesters.

A lot of schools have multiple terms in a semester, mostly due to having accelerated courses in there, like 2 8-week terms, or 3 6-week terms or whatever.

Also, since lots of schools don't use traditional semesters, they use term to indicate a single length of time - like TESU has 12 terms a year, once a month and overlapping each other; but other schools might have 5 10-week terms, or 4 12-week terms.

And of course, there's the quarter-system, which is generally 3 10-week or 12-week terms or trimesters or quarters.

So it's all kind of interchangeable here.  We like to confuse people.  Big Grin

THIS is the answer that I thought I'd read somewhere, but, when I tried to elicit it, I didn't get very far. I didn't realize that COSC had terms within its semesters. So, to save money, I simply (!) need to find a semester that offers a cornerstone the first term and a capstone in a later term.)

Thanks for clarifying this.

I have wondered about this same issue... Some capstones are split into a 5 week and 10 week class, so in those cases would that be considered 2 terms besides the cornerstone term? (Thus paying semester fees twice?)
