All the talk about education and look at this list. The worst are liberal. The best conservative? Why does New England refuse to fund higher education?

No surprises if liberalism is not in favor of funding education.
It never has, and that is also why our country's most liberal colleges are poor in educational content and are very expensive.

Funding without tuition caps just tends to drive the cost of tuition upwards.

I think "liberal" is a strong word for any university or college system....it's not like all of that bloated tuition actually goes to things like....offsetting the exorbitant cost of college textbooks (that the department heads themselves write), creating new scholarship opportunities, funding adjunct and/or tenure salaries (hey, maybe even a pay raise???), or doing anything other than building new sports complexes, making sure all of the profit-driving sports teams have new equipment and uniforms, and every 4-5 years building a new student housing complex or renovating an old one in order to keep everyone enthralled.

College textbooks are too expensive and do not get why people put up with prices like that. Just buy used books.

Because often times there's a new required edition every year so the used market becomes virtually non-existent. Also, often times math classes will require some special access code for online content, so a used book will already have its access code expended.

One time I compared two books the new required edition only had a couple of differences. Not even important ones.
But I guess most people accept that is how it is.

Education is big business and New England rips off its own kids. In the West, the best deal and most taxpayer-funded is the University of Wyoming. Western students from many out-of-state can use the WUE and go there cheaper than their own states.
The Edu-Gov't complex is real.

Why should taxpayers fund colleges? Taxpayers in the Northeast are taxed up the wahzoo and pay the highest taxes in the nation. They're done. They've got nothing left to give. All of us on here are paying for our education and not relying on taxpayers to fund it.
