Sophia to WGU - ss20ts - 07-13-2020 I'm helping my husband pick out courses on Sophia while he can get them done for free. He will need a humanities course for WGU which is where he's looking at applying for the data science and data analytics degree. Does anyone know if WGU takes Visual Communications as a humanities If the don't accept Visual Communications as a replacement for their Introduction to Humanities, does anyone know what they will accept? He will finish a course tomorrow and wants to start another one right away. RE: Sophia to WGU - rachel83az - 07-13-2020 This info is several years old, so there is no guarantee that it's still valid, buuuuut it looks like there are several potential candidates: https://web.archive.org/web/20160611164747/https://wgu.sophia.org/ RE: Sophia to WGU - ss20ts - 07-13-2020 (07-13-2020, 11:58 AM)rachel83az Wrote: This info is several years old, so there is no guarantee that it's still valid, buuuuut it looks like there are several potential candidates: Thank you! I guess Visual Communications is out. He's debating which one will take him less time. LOL He hasn't even looked to see how many challenges there are. RE: Sophia to WGU - rachel83az - 07-14-2020 I think visual communication is newer than 2016, so it's still possible that it'd work. But you'd have to contact WGU about that. It covers the basics of graphic design (color theory, typography, etc.). I thought religion was pretty fast and easy. Most of the answers were obvious to me. I'd done surface-level investigations of the other religions before, though. Art History I wasn't too difficult but it did require more reading of the actual material to be able to pass. It covers prehistoric art to art from the middle ages, IIRC. Someone who was more familiar with the topic beforehand would find it easier to pass the course. Art History II (newer than 2016, so it's not on that page; could conceivably count as a humanities) was even more challenging for me than I. A substantial portion of it covered modern art (which I generally don't like) and weird art performances. He's leaning towards the religion course because he's knows a bit about a few religions and nothing really about art history. He wants to finish in a week or less so I told him to go with the class he knew the most about. I felt like art history would be more difficult. I took it in college and it was a rough course because we had to remember hundreds of works of art. They all blend after awhile. I've searched Google and Reddit and found nothing about Visual Communications transferring to WGU. It may now, but I can't find anything and he's starting the class tomorrow so no time to wait for a response. Thanks for your help! RE: Sophia to WGU - rachel83az - 07-14-2020 If he knows ANYTHING about religion, he can probably have the course finished in just a few hours, honestly. It only briefly touches on the obscure religions and focuses mainly on Christianity, Islam, Judaism, with a sprinkling of Hinduism and Confucianism/Buddhism. He knows a great deal about Christianity so maybe that will pay off. RE: Sophia to WGU - ss20ts - 07-15-2020 He started the religion course last night and is making good progress already. He says it's really easy. So that's good. Thank you for your help. RE: Sophia to WGU - rachel83az - 07-16-2020 Glad to hear it. I found it to be pretty darn easy myself. Visual Communications, TEEX Cyberethics nor The Institutes Ethics course did NOT work. I had to take the Humanities course at WGU. Wasn't bad, I finished in 2 days and thats with reading every module and doing every quiz to be safe. |
