Discounted Tuition & COVID-19 - jinsoo - 05-02-2020

Just wondering if you guys think tuition will be discounted because of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly the Big 3?

Or is the Big 3 already considered heavily discounted compared to traditional means of earning a college degree that it won't be considered? Perhaps they might even increase tuition instead if there is an influx of online degree seekers because of quarantine to offset their on-campus losses? Or will an economic crisis caused by the pandemic lower tuition across all boards?

Many students have been protesting for partial and even full refunds arguing that online learning is not what they paid for whether it's the hands on experience in general, or other factors such losing access to facilities and equipment, closure of dorms, and even school cafeterias voiding their prepaid meal plans. Some universities have been accommodating, while other universities instead have higher online tuition costs claiming added costs of technical support and program development and marketing.

Thoughts?

COSC has already frozen tuition for the upcoming year. And, honestly, they're already quite cheap compared to other places. And I don't think any of their models have changed all that much (unlike traditional B&M schools being forced to go entirely online). TESU might be TESU and increase tuition, but I doubt it. I doubt the big 3 are going to do much more than they already have.

The other schools might have to lower tuition to keep up, though, once more students realize that they can get the exact same education anywhere.

Schools that were already online don't have much incentive to lower their prices. I doubt the Big 3 will make any changes due to this pandemic.

Hmm, I don't think any of the Big 3 or the Competency Based degree programs will have any discounts.

I know Rice has reduced tuition of their for-credit summer courses by 50%, but they are generally targeting high-schoolers. Also, it's still $500 per credit hour.

WGU has increased the tuition for the term, but it's still low compared to other bachelor degree programs. Significantly lower if you can complete your coursework in one term.
