Need advice for graduating by Sept with ASNSM in Comp Sci (TESU) - CarpeDiem8 - 03-28-2020

Hey All!

So we received some bad news yesterday and things will be changing on the home front for a little while. This virus is absolutely hurting the middle class, there's no doubt about it.

As such, I will need to backburner my bachelor's degree. However, I am so close to my ASNSM in Computer Science from TESU that I am considering an alternate plan, where I take SOS-110 in the May term, pay for the residency fee, and apply for September graduation, then once my son returns to school September, then ramp back up with the rest of my bachelor's AOS and do the capstone.

Since the ASNSM doesn't require a capstone, is it possible that all I need is to complete all 117 alternative credits before July 1st, then be done with SOS-110 by end of May term, July 26th?

Or is it more than that, based on an audit cycle?

Thanks!

Hey there,

Personally, I would recommend waiting for graduation with the Bachelors if there isn't some particular reason you need that Associates by September.  This is because it seems like you're wanting to get the BA by later this year or early 2021.

If you're going for the ASNSM, you don't need 117 credits by July 1, you just need the 57 or so.  As long as your SOS-110 course starts for May term and you finish during that term, you're good to go.  Your application for ASNSM graduation needs to be done before April 1.

If you want, you can apply for graduation and not pay the residency waiver fee until you really want to graduate then, that fee can be paid when you graduate the ASNSM and within a year for the BA, or when you decide to graduate both the ASNSM & BA.

During this time, I would recommend completing the courses best you can.  Keep grinding at it, you're pretty close, good luck!

Oh wow, April 1st is this Wednesday! And yes, I meant 57, not 117 (I’m sure you saw what I meant there! Lol Silly mistake!)!

So could I technically pay for the residency fee in late July, graduate with ASNSM in September, then by April 2021, apply for graduation again, take capstone May term, graduate September 2021? That sounds like it would be 1 yr from July 2020 to July 2021 regarding the waiver, correct?

Assuming I'm following what you're saying, you're residency waiver is only good for 1 year. So you have to actually graduate within that one year I believe. Someone with more experience should be able to chime in.
