My TESU application got rejected - romoh - 03-25-2020

TESU rejected my application because I don’t have either TOEFL nor IELTS. I’m an international student and my home country’s first language is not English. I understand the requirement but neither exams (TOEFL and IELTS) can be taken now due to the Coronavirus.

The admissions office at TESU “made me an exception” to take an Accuplacer exam instead. I took it, scored high enough, and then TESU decided that this exception was not valid/approved.

While I understand the challenges this pandemic is causing but I’m kinda disappointed that the system isn’t flexible enough to deal with such changes.

What are my options besides waiting for this chaos to finish?

I'm pretty sure you can appeal the decision to deny the exception / reject the application.

The admissions told me that the Provost of the university supported this rejection. Not sure if appealing would yield any positive results. What do you think?

Where are you from? According to ETS, in certain regions some tests are going to be proctored by ProctorU.

Here is an extract from the website:

"ETS has launched an at home testing solution for the TOEFL iBT test for students who have been affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19). Monitoring of the test will be conducted using live remote proctors by ProctorU®, the leading proctoring solution for online testing."

I was hoping a price discount of this test (less proctoring fees due to the online nature of the proctoring session) but sadly it's at the same price Sad

what if you pass Sophia's English Composition 1 & 2

https://www.sophia.org/online-courses-for-college-credit#courses

or from Straighterline
https://www.straighterline.com/online-college-courses/english/

or from Study.com
https://study.com/academy/course/college-composition-writing-course.html
https://study.com/academy/course/english-105-college-composition-ii.html

you're going to have to take English Composition anyway
so maybe if you can complete these before enrolling to show you're capable maybe they'll make an exception

I have no idea if you can take them being out of the country
I'm sure others know

No it must be TOEFL, IELTS or English Com from regionally accredited University. I am facing the same situation.

You can try English Com at regionally accredited university or wait when TOEFL home will be available at your country. Anyway, i dont understand whats the problem. Some Universities allow you to enroll and get additional English course in your first year.

I am sure you are not rejected. You just have to provide proof of your English proficiency and can be admitted

They said they would refund my application fee so I guess that’s a rejection.

Yes, if they will take RA English Comp, then take it at Arizona State University's Earned Admissions program if you can.  It's free to sign up, and then $99 to put it on a transcript after your final grade comes in, if you finish by Aug 17.  (if you don't, then it will be $400).
