AS at COSC or TESC Associates in Math with these credits - Hometeacher628 - 08-28-2019
Here is what I have for the Associates of Science at COSC, but I just saw the TESC Associates in Math, and that is an interesting possibility. This is for DD#2 who hopes to Major in Industrial Engineering eventually. She is starting her Junior year in high school. She hopes to take Calculus 3 her Senior year so plan B could always be the TESC Bachelors in MATH. My concern is that she will have all upper level Literature and History for High school Senior year. If I wrap all these credits in an Associates Degree, will that mean she couldn’t use them for her BA and would need to earn 60 more upper level appropriate credits for the designated major? She is so busy and now just doesn’t have time for CLEPs to get that 100 and 200 level credit this year. What direction would you take? Does it look like she just needs those three classes? What am I missing? This group was so helpful years back with help planning for DD#1 (who graduated last spring with 2 Bachelors Degrees with emphases and a minor in 4 years).

I'm a little confused - let me back you up a minute. This is for DD#2 who hopes to major in Industrial Engineering... WHERE? And would that be instead of the TESU degree in Math and if she did a TESU associate's in math or in addition to it? Sorry, I'm not clear on your plan which makes it hard to answer your question.
ps. TESU will give her a hard time about her age. She can petition but it's not a sure-fire thing whereas COSC is ok with 16 and up. I mention that because she'd have to enroll in order to take her Capstone.

ps. TESU will give her a hard time about her age. She can petition but it's not a sure-fire thing whereas COSC is ok with 16 and up. I mention that because she'd have to enroll in order to take her Capstone. I was looking for help on facilitating an Associates degree with the credits she has earned. I have included the credits planned for Junior year and have “space” in her Senior year to add the credits needed to earn an Associates Degree. DD#1 earned her AS through COSC , but I hadn’t been in the market for a while due to their 5 year age gap. Now, for DD#2 I researched what was available and what new rules may apply. SHe will be looking for an Academy appointment, in such case, no credits would be accepted. IA State or Kennisaw State were two other options. I wanted her to have a strong resume going in to college, so an engineering department would be interested in her. I was hoping the level of coursework might demonstrate her ability. If she does ROTC her schedule would be packed. By having a few solid classes from a 4 year school may ease her load each semester. I think COSC will end up the best bet, but the TESC Associates in Math perked up our ears, and she would have 18 math credits by he end of her Junior Year.
Then, my other question which may have been confusing, was if she had many of her classes (history and Literature) that will be upper level credits, would throw off the balance in using them for an ASSOCIATES but when it’s time for the BS in Industrial Engineering years down the line, she wouldn’t be able to count them as upper level because she used them in the AS.
Does anyone know of an online Industrial Engineering Degree? I haven’t found one. One other option in Rensselaer in NY. But I don’t think she will have the scores for that.

Few questions:
1. Can she just take the Ethics and the CPCU Code of Professional Conduct (online course) for 3 quick Ethics credits?
2. I'm not sure if she'd like CSMLearn credits as quantitative reasoning, but another very easy 3 there that might be nice to have.
3. For a university like RPI, has she taken the SAT/ACT? In terms of coursework, she seems competitive, but they would require an exam score.
4. I only found two UL courses in that list, so I don't see any big loss either way. She could take another LL History course, for example, and bank the HIS356 for later. I'm actually unsure of the typical policy in regards to UL credits.

No, using UL credits for an AA won't make them unusable for her BA.
But, I think you're spending too much time focusing on her AA, when you should be focusing on her bigger college plans. My son is interested in the USNA, as well as NROTC, both as an Engineering major; and yes, I'm planning on trying to get college credit for him to ease the load, since some of the schools he's looking at require more than 120cr for graduation. BUT, I'm spending more time looking at AP credit, CLEP as a backup, and which schools he could go to. His junior year (and some senior) we'll spend an ungodly amount of time applying/looking for scholarships in case he ends up at an NROTC school that doesn't give him free room & board.
Not sure about other academies, but USNA does give some credit for AP exams, and also will give some credit for things taken at a college like Calculus - so those aren't bad options to take.
As for an AA at TESU, I'm not really sure how that will help her much except to say she has it. If she ends up at an academy, they won't care, and she certainly won't get any alternative credit. If she ends up in ROTC, it's a toss-up as to what they'll do with her credit.
Also, I'm not really sure you WANT an AA when applying for ROTC. Not certain, but do they put her in a different category if she has that many credits? Like, will she be applying for a different program/system than the normal ROTC? Is that preferable? I'm not sure that it is. I would do more research before committing to an AA, and maybe use that AFTER she finds out if she's accepted into an Academy or ROTC.
