Pls help me understand - lot of questions here:

As I understand it, Excelsior gives actual grades for test results for clep & dantes - is that right (At tesc, it just goes down as pass/fail)? How does that work.... let's say 50 is a passing Dantes score and you scored low (but passing) score of 51, what happens - it goes down as a 'D'? Do they accept a 'D' transferred in? Just seems so weird.

Assuming this is true (letter grades), what happens if you take a Dantes or CLEP and you pass, but you don't like your score and you want to retake it... I know you're still subject to the 6 month thing, but can u retake for that reason (to better your score)? What if you do worse or what if you fail? Does your passing grade stay on your record? Will the failing grade stay on the record too?

Thanks!

Excelsior does not give letter grades for Cleps, only Dantes and ECE exams.

From what I understand, you can re-take an exam to get a better grade. However for Dantes you need to wait 6 months. I think you only have to wait 2 months for ECE exams.

Thanks! What happens if you retake and fail or get a lower grade?

The lowest grade you can get on the test and pass will be a C, some dantes tests the passing score is like a 45 well if you get a 45 you get a C get a 50 get a B and a 55 get an A (just an example), there is a list someone of that grades you get for what score on each test. maybe someone else has it but dont worry about, a pass is a pass. move on and take the next test.

Oh I forgot, now failed exams will be placed on your transcript... so now i suggest when you take an exam do not sign up to have the score sent to excelsior, wait to get your score back and then decide if you want that sent to them.

Jim, That's HUGE... thx for coming back to the thread to add the info about failing a test. Man, never would have seen that coming!!

Yeah, when i found out I was very upset, considering that I had sent 2 scores to them that were failing, but that was over a year ago. this new policy is as of I think September of last year... I could be wrong about the date but they do it from now on to be careful.
