Passed A & I Lit - Drummerboy - 02-08-2008

To Melbourne traveled I by way of road,
To take a CLEP is reason why I strove.
But far as Watermelon city did I get,
And my vehicle went blewy and I set
Upon the road and it would not shift gear,
So I sat for 2 long hours without cheer.
Then he came that man who like an angel,
Took my erring car and me from danger.
Then I waited long again for Dad,
Who came and picked me up and wasn't mad.
So I decided longer would I wait,
And learned the lesson handed me by fate.

Hey guys,

That was my first trip, but I finally got back to the testing center and passed with a 75! Of course I do not have results on the essay section yet.

The above is an example of the A and I Lit test. Okay, maybe the real test is a little more difficult. The main thing is to answer all the questions. I was worried about running out of time, but in the end, I actually had time left over. The A and I Lit is 80 questions in 90 minutes, but my test was actually only 78 questions.

I studied the REA book and took the sample tests. I also took the tests on Peterson's and in the College Board book. Do as many tests as you can, because you can't really study for this test. I do suggest that you write note cards of the different literary devices and their meanings and test yourself. It was hard for me to remember all of them. I mean, synecdoche! Come on! Actually, you don't need to remember all of them. (It would be great if you could). The literary device questions on the test were pretty few and simple. Just brush up on their meanings. You might also brush up on the types of poems, ie. couplets, free verse, etc. I think there was only 1 or 2 of those. And the rest was . . . well . . . analyzing and interpreting literature.

I am struggling with deciding whether to go for A&I Lit exam tomorrow, or to keep trying to study longer...and have to pospone for another week or longer (work schedule).

I have taken two REA tests so far and scored 61% (scaled 60) on the first REA test, did worse on the second with a 56% raw(scaled 55).
Tried 1 Peterson and got a raw 56%.

I keep running out of time and feel like I am winging it much more than usual. First REA test I was more relaxed and only missed 5 questions, second test I really wanted to answer them all and did worse..had 12 questions unanswered with less than 2 mins left.

I do not seem to be improving!

My usually modus operandi is to go take a CLEP when I am scoring 75-85% on REA and Peterson's tests. I tent to score just a little bit higher on the actual test but have never felt as rushed as I do on this A&I Lit CLEP.

I would greatly appreciate some feedback on this dilemma!

Thanks!
