Interesting, so that's a program that an enlisted soldier in the army takes when they achieve sergeant major rank(or in order to make that rank)? And then they finish up their AS, BS, or MS at excelsior?

I read the article and that cleared it up. Seems pretty cool.

It is at the end of their Army career and their highest rank.  The positive thing is they should be better prepared to get a second career also after the Army.  The last SMA class had 83 MA, 79 BS, and 21 AS degrees.    46 other nations also send their SMAs there every year.

18 colleges teach at the SMA.  Excelsior College just seems to get the most.  Being a Big 3 they have the advantage of transferring in 117 credits.  I bet they get all the BS degree folks.  I bet most of the other 17 colleges focus on MA degrees or the AS degree (I am thinking Central Texas College).  I am only guessing!
