International Student/TESU/Student Visa - rowan555 - 09-27-2018 I am trying to assist one of my kids' friends with an issue. She lives in Canada and wants to move to New Orleans to attend college and get some work in the film industry; however, her poor high school grades caused her to be rejected by her school of choice. I wonder, would it be possible for her to move to Louisiana and attend TESU online while pursuing some part time film gigs? I don't know anything about how it works being an international student, and I don't want to recommend she look into that avenue if it's not legal/doable. RE: International Student/TESU/Student Visa - bjcheung77 - 09-27-2018 You actually don't attend TESU as almost all your courses will be from a third party provider. It would be the same if she was in state or out of state if she uses the Study.com affiliation. BTW, which province was she from? Did she take any college classes? RE: International Student/TESU/Student Visa - rowan555 - 09-27-2018 Nova Scotia, and no. I'm just trying to brainstorm a backup plan. She's currently seeing if she can get into the local community college which would be the ideal course of action. She's just having a rough time and I'm trying to offer as many possibilities as I can think of. RE: International Student/TESU/Student Visa - MNomadic - 09-27-2018 I'm not sure if online classes qualify one for a student visa but if she wants to actually attend an online university (vs just sending 100+ credits to tesu and attending for ~1 semester) then there are other online universities that are either cheaper, better or both. Alternatively, would going to a CC in her desired area be an option(at least for the first 1-2 years)? You can't get a Visa if you're going through an online program like TESU. You have to actually attend classes on campus - otherwise, you don't actually need a visa since you can take online courses from your home country. Sounds like one of the local CCs would be the best option.(09-27-2018, 12:07 PM)MNomadic Wrote: I'm not sure if online classes qualify one for a student visa but if she wants to actually attend an online university (vs just sending 100+ credits to tesu and attending for ~1 semester) then there are other online universities that are either cheaper, better or both. RE: International Student/TESU/Student Visa - rowan555 - 09-27-2018 That's what I figured, I just wasn't certain and couldn't get a satisfactory answer when I googled. She's looking into a community college here which has an articulation agreement with the university she wants to transfer to. |
