Didn't pass DSST Algebra - barbara2bba - 01-02-2008 I totally panicked in the exam. The fact sheet questions seemed very do-able. It seemed like 50% of the exam was to plot equations on graphs which I totally underestimated my capability to do. I ran out of time, at the 1 minute mark I just answered the remaining questions as "b's". If a problem got too big, I went on to the next, but the 2 hour mark was not enough time for me. Of course, I felt that I might have been able to complete the ones at the end of the test and could kick myself for not going faster. I am scared to death of statistics, but it appears my only recourse. On the bright side, I spent very little time studying the 6 credit social sciences and history exam - didn't even make it through all the IC flashcards in the economics section, just US history 1 and 2 and scored a 60. Didn't pass DSST Algebra - gcalvin - 01-02-2008 I know that's a disappointment, but don't let it get you down too much. I think I read in some of your other posts that you are in the Excelsior Liberal Arts program? Can't you use CLEP College Mathematics or CLEP College Algebra? I know that CLEP College Algebra or higher is required for the Business degree programs, but I'm pretty sure that College Mathematics will cover the Liberal Arts mathematics requirement, and it's 6 credits instead of just 3. I know a lot of people have "math anxiety" and if it's anything like my "writing anxiety" then I certainly sympathize. If the CLEP College Mathematics can fill the bill for you, then I recommend the Princeton Review Cracking the CLEP book for preparation. Didn't pass DSST Algebra - barbara2bba - 01-03-2008 Thanks, I will look at college math. I thought I couldn't take it and get the BS degree. Should have talked to the advisor about it before assuming. |
