UExcel exams - Llgdavis - 03-14-2018
Hi,
Does anyone have feedback on the UExcel Exams (Specifically Social Psyche, Abnormal Psyche, and Research and Experimental Psyche)? How difficult are they? Are there adequate study aides to fully prepare and pass them?

i too am curious.
i thought they were all like $110 but when i looked closer it seemed like the abnormal psych was $375? i would like clarity on that too.

It looks like the cost of the exams vary from $355 and up.

I took the Social Psychology and Research Methods in Psychology Uexcels back in August of 2016. They transferred to TESU as PSY-370 Social Psychology I and PSY-322 Research in Experimental Psy. I took both on the same day (loooong day of testing) and got a B and A, respectively.
Both of those exams should be $110 + testing center fee. I would suggest going for the "Value Package" that includes 2 practice exams and 1 free re-take (was $145, but can't find current pricing).
My studying was done over the course of 2 weekends, probably totaling 15-20 hours.
*I read through the content guide.
*Then took 1 practice test. It shows what you need to study.
*Then I read the corresponding sections of the text. If you can handle e-texts you can rent one for both texts for ~ $22 each off Amazon. I actually chose these exams BECAUSE they only had 1 text each.
*Then wait until I felt confident and took the 2nd practice test.
*Reviewed anything I was still missing.
*Saved the Sample Questions in the Content Guide for right before the exam, to boost confidence.
However, both of these exams have been updated last fall, so cannot really speak to the current difficulty levels. But as the Content Guide explains, the listed text is the source used to verify all exam answers, so it seems really worthwhile to spend the $20-something to have access to it. I am a fan of reading the chapter/unit summaries and only digging into the text for the topics that seem unclear after that. There was maybe 15% overlap between these 2 exams.

Most UExcel's are $110 (only 10 out of 55 are more), and then you pay an additional $50 or $60 testing center fee when you take them (depending on the length of the exam).
They have their own study materials you can pay more for official practice tests ($35 for 2 tests), or you can use the recommended textbooks including open-source materials, and the free study guide and just go for it.
Abnormal Psych is one of the expensive exams, but there are other less expensive options (TECEP, Ed4Credit, and Coopersmith). All are less than the $355 for the Uexcel.
