Mathematical Modeling - 2L8 - 01-24-2018

Hey again Big Grin  , when it comes to the mathematical modeling course has anyone taken the course and did it differ from college algebra. Also on a scale of 1 - 10 how difficult was it?

Which course are you referring to?

RE: Mathematical Modeling - bjcheung77 - 01-24-2018

This course from TESU is an Upper Level course, it is a lot different than College Algebra by reading their description.
College Algebra is a first year course, whereas the Modeling course is a third year course. Check below.

Hi
Check the syllabus

Check the book
Giordano, Frank R., Fox, William P., & Horton, Steven B. (2014). A First Course in Mathematical Modeling 5th ed. Boston, MA: Brooks/Cole, Cengage Learning.

The two courses aren't even in the same league. It's real math. College algebra isn't. When you read the syllabus and see the word "graph", it has a completely different meaning than the one you know. If you're unfamiliar with the other terms in the syllabus, it's a 10 of 10 difficulty for you.

I wonder why they don't list the prereq's for the course (like, do you just need College Algebra, or Calc III??)?

Advisory: It is advisable to have knowledge equivalent to Calculus II and familiarity with Excel or other software like Mathlab in order to succeed in this course.

Good Luck

Ah.  Ok, I wonder why it's on the website on a certain page but not on the syllabus then!  Tongue
