Formally Depressed Dropout Yearning for Redemption… - jonahh - 01-09-2018

A long story short I had everything going for me but then darkness out of no where just manifested itself which lead to me down a dark hole which lead me to eventually drop out of the Uni. This was only a few years back but since then I have matured so much and gotten back up on my feet.

Acquiring my degree has been on my mind so intensively this past year that I finally decided to go for it. Fortunately, like most here I never knew such a community existed. If only I had come across this site some time ago, but either way the negativity I went through in life has made me the strong individual I am now.

I was studying International Business before and have quite a few credits. Honestly, a few may be an understatement. I don’t have any transcripts of mine at the moment and can’t say what I have done or need but by the looks of a TESU plan that I stumbled upon for BSBA Marketing if I recall correctly I have completed quite a bit of it already.

So, my goal is this, go back to Asia get some humility out of teaching English while doing my best to get a marketing internship and eventually a job.
I am wish to apply for TESU and acquire a BSBA in Marketing. Though I always feel like time is not on my side. I have a few questions and a few concerns…since I am a n00b here.

Do I gather all my transcripts from my prior Uni to previous CC’s and send them all to TESU to get evaluated?

Once evaluated will they tell me what I have left in order to graduate or will they just tell me what they find equivalent to their courses?

Would it be possible to graduate by June this year?

Also, I wish to also get a Masters at some point, would this also be entirely possible to accomplish online via exams?
If marketing isn't doable fast enough, what else would you recommend along the lines of business?

Am I overlooking anything here?

I am also prior military for what it's worth.

I do apologize if this post is out of place, I have a vision and I am just so eager to get on it already.

If marketing isn't doable fast enough, what else would you recommend along the lines of business?

Yes, you should apply to TESU immediately and send all your transcripts to them. However, they will take a solid month from the time they receive your transcripts to evaluate them, so also post your credits here and we'll help you get started while you're waiting for them. Be sure to note any courses where you got less than a C.

Do you still have military or veteran status and benefits? If so, COSC/Excelsior/TESU would be amazingly cheap. I'm going to echo davewill's advice, apply to TESU and send all transcripts for evaluation. Post everything from uni/college you have completed including business/industry related certifications. Use your spreadsheet for reference/tracking purposes...

Depending on several factors, you may be able to complete the requirements and graduate by June as long as you enroll in the capstone at the latest for March term. You must apply for graduation before April 1, but you can send all transcripts in by early May (around the time March term ends at the latest). It just takes you time to complete those courses...

The spreadsheet you have from dfrecore is exactly what you need, complete the AOS (area of study) requirements by using Study.com/TECEPS. If you want, you can review a modified version I have in the Beginners Guide, mainly using SL/Study.com for the rest of the courses; if you have military/veteran status, you should take CLEPs/DSSTs vs SL/Study.com for free.

I applied very early this morning and forwarded all my transcripts to myself in order to bundle them. Actually I can't say exactly what classes I have taken nor can I log into any of my portals. Since I have multiple copies coming in I'll go through them and post them. I am not too fond of my grades but I was quite a mess before.

The application at the end indicated I will receive an admission decision within 3 to 6 days, is this normal? In regards to taking a month I would imagine a few phone calls could speed the process up, I suppose it wouldn't hurt trying.

I didn't utilize all of my Veteran benefits, though I am unsure as to how much I have left though I am inquiring today about it.

I am quite eager to finish this as fast as possible, so I will be keeping an eye on the dates you mentioned. I really do appreciate the help and I will keep this up to date. Since I am fairly new to all this I may stumble quite a bit at first but I'll set my self straight fast.

Cheers :]

Yes, admission is pretty automatic. They will only accept official transcripts directly from the school. If they are sent to you first, make sure they are in sealed envelopes and you do not open them. I've never heard of anyone speeding up the process of evaluation, except when in the graduation audit phase.

Don't worry about your grades. Virtually no one here was a model student or we'd have gotten our degrees on the first try.

You have a good plan, good for you, and it's awesome you have risen above the depression. You might want to consider applying to TESU, COSC, and Excelsior to see which would be fastest and lowest cost.

RE: Formally Depressed Dropout Yearning for Redemption… - dfrecore - 01-09-2018

Being "accepted" at TESU is practically automatic, and you will know in a few days. But them evaluating your credits is another process entirely. They will take about a month to do so, and calling definitely won't speed them up.

Your transcripts need to go directly from the prior school to TESU, but you should also have a copy yourself.

When you post your transcripts, put the school type (4-yr or CC, Semester-based or Quarter-based), then list each course by course #, course name, number of credits, and grade if less than a C (even a C- is important to know).

Once you list all courses, we can help you figure out where everything will probably go in a TESU eval.

In the meantime, if you look at my spreadsheet and know for sure of any course you haven't taken yet, you should start.

I finished a ton of credits before they did my evaluation because this forum helped me plug in credits that would definitely fit somewhere. Things I knew I would need I could start on right away. So definitely utilize this forum. You'll save a lot of time. Get into a capstone no matter what so you have the option to graduate in June.

Hello All,

I finally got my credit evaluation done and the courses listed below are thankfully the only ones I have to complete. I also attached my credit eval below as an image.

  1. Ethics 3 - Would Insurance Ethics from The Institute suffice for this requirement? On the Excel sheet it lists it as 2 credits but I need 3 credits. What should I do about this?
  2. Civil Engagement 3 - Which course would I need from study.com in order to satisfy this 3 credit requirement?
  3. LAW 201
  4. FIN -301
  5. MAR-301
  6. COM-300
  7. BUS-421, How can I go about getting credit for this course?
  8. MAR-411
  9. TES-100 I read somewhere that this can be waived. How do I go about this if possible?
  10. Mrktg Electives- I need 12 Credits here, which courses from Study.com would be able to satisfy this criteria?

I would like to take as many courses with study.com as possible. If I missed anything or need to submit more information here please let me know. I want to graduate as fast as possible. I am a veteran with some GI bill benefits left, I wish to save it for the future depending how expensive the above comes out to be. Once again thanks for helping a complete noob here.

Answering questions, and using Study.com courses for everything unless otherwise stated:

1) Yes, Insurance Ethics will work, and then you can do an extra credit/course in Gen Ed Electives (you may already have enough credits)
2) POLS 102: American Government
3) BUS 103: Intro to Business Law
4) FIN 101: Principles of Finance (not Personal Finance)
5) BUS 102: Principles of Marketing
6) I'm not seeing where you have to take COM-300, you already took a Managerial Comm course
7) This course is the capstone and must be taken at TESU
8) MARK 301: Marketing Research (comes in as LL now, MAR-211)
9) This will be waived when you take at least 1 Study.com course and transfer it in, and then change your enrollment to Study.com affiliate membership

You also need ACC 102: Intro to Managerial Accounting

Then, you need to call them and have them move some things around:
1) Move Global Marketing MAR-451 to the AOS
2) Move Int'l Business Management MAN-271 to Int'l Business Core requirement
3) Ask if Biological Anthropology ANT-160 can be moved to Diversity
3a) If so, now you can move HIS-199 to Knowledge of Human Culture, and open up space in Gen Ed Electives, there are a million options for that area.
3b) If not, you can take SOC 101: Intro to Sociology to fulfill the Diversity requirement

For the rest of your marketing courses:
BUS 309: Digital Marketing & Advertising MAR-441
HOSP 301: Hospitality Marketing HMM-316 (ask if this comes in as UL Marketing, it should)

Choices:
Advertising MAR-3232 TECEP
Marketing Communications MAR-321 TECEP
Sales Management MAR-322 TECEP
Principles of Sales MAR-322 Davar
Public Relations Thought & Practice COM-209 TECEP

So you should have:
MAR-211 Marketing Research as your requirement
MAR-451 Global Marketing done
MAR-302 Marketing Management done
MAR-441 Digital Marketing
1 additional UL course
1 additional course that's either UL/LL (doesn't matter).
