Can't trust random rankings - sanantone - 10-22-2017 I know that people have issues with the methodologies used by the more well-known ranking publishers, but that's an entirely different issue from rankings based on paid advertisement. I've warned before that many of the ranking websites posted here have no validity. One way you can tell whether or not a ranking website is valid is by seeing if they publish the methodology. Then, you can see if the factors on which schools are ranked make any kind of sense. After that, you can look at whether or not the rankings make sense based on the listed criteria. For example, if there is a lot of weight placed on cost, do you see expensive schools ranked near the top and cheaper schools missing from the rankings? Gabe posted on the sister forum an article on military-friendly rankings being deceptive promotions. https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2017/10/20/ftc-settlement-says-rankings-military-friendly-colleges-were-deceptive-promotions RE: Can't trust random rankings - Life Long Learning - 10-22-2017 I agree this seems like a scam. I have seen lists in Army Times that were quite accurate. I have attended about at least three of them that were (EC, FTCC, CCC). I also have attended some downright anti-military universities like the University of Oregon. When they make the list I just laugh and throw it away. |
