I'm working on a degree plan at Excelsior College (Bachelor of Science in Natural Sciences), and I'm allowed a handful of additional arts/sciences or applied professional credits. There is no mention of "free electives," so I'm wondering where "health" courses might fit in on this degree plan. For example, a course like this (HEA-305 Women's Health) - http://www2.tesu.edu/course.php?CourseCode=HEA-305
Secondly, what exactly are applied professional credits, and would health courses fit into this category? I know that business courses would never be considered arts/sciences, but what about health-related courses?

Anything that is not required for general education or the major is a free elective. Most health courses are applied.

"Free elective" is a term TESU uses. EC uses "applied professional" for the same category. In short- non arts/sciences. Business, health, vocational, etc.

TESU lets you use applied courses and arts and science courses as free electives. In other words, you can use anything college-level as a free elective. At Excelsior, the applied professional courses are not synonymous with free electives. Once again, any courses that are not required can be applied professional or arts and science. However, how many applied professional courses you can use depends on your program being a BA or BS. For the nursing associate's, it depends on it being an AS or AAS.
If you look at the degree chart, Excelsior has two main categories. They have general education (arts and science requirement) and other requirements. Other requirements includes your major requirements (which can end up being arts and science or applied professional depending on what your major is) and leftover credits that can be anything college-level (arts and science or applied professional). The leftover credits are the equivalent of free electives.
Since you're a natural science major, your major courses are arts and science. If you were a business major, your major requirements would be applied professional. This is why applied professional is not interchangeable with free electives.
