TESU and Remington transfer credits? - mudball - 09-24-2017
My daughter got a medical assistant degree from Remington College. Does anyone know if her credits will transfer to TESU?

Many people have graduated from a Nationally Accredited and they are recognized programs, which is fine, I took several courses from NA schools before but didn't finish the degree. Sadly, TESU does not accept nationally accredited degrees, so your daughter may want to go to another school that does.

What does she want to get a Bachelors Degree in? There are a whole slew of schools that accept NA credits.

If you must go to TESU, you can try them, I read that COSC/Hodges accepted Nationally Accredited credentials for individuals at ITT and some other nationally accredited schools when those schools were "shutting down", they've accepted these students so they can complete their degrees.
Essentially, schools want enrollment, you can try them out and see which school is more flexible and is meant for your daughter.

Excelsior College might? Nursing credits are an exception.
Excelsior College will consider transfer credits from non-regionally accredited institutions, recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the U.S. Department of Education (USDE), that award at minimum an Associate or Baccalaureate college degree program. Transfer eligible credit must be applicable to the previously mentioned college degree programs.

She is a single Mom who has racked up a ridiculous amount of student debt from a couple of high priced places. (Not my recommendation) She completed her degree at Remington, but a medical assistant degree doesn't get you a very good wage. She works at a chiropractic office and barely gets by. She wants something in the medical field, but is not sure what. Maybe Physical therapy assistant. Not sure. TESU is not a must, just one I suggested to her. Trying to find a college that will accept the credits she already has and have her add Study.com or SL, etc. credits, so she can complete inexpensive classes while she works also.

I would recommend getting her to work on emailing APUS, COSC, and Excelsior about their programs.
Basically, the popular ones nowadays are the Bachelors in Health Info Management and Public Health.
Get her to inquire about entry requirements and acceptance or block transfer of all her credits, every place she's studied.

Yeah, I would probably skip TESU unless she wants to start from scratch. If she already has an AA, then finding a school that will take those credits is her best plan.
Also, finding a degree she wants that she knows will give her a better bang for her buck is key. She doesn't need another degree that doesn't help - she needs one that will get her a great job. So have her spend some time figuring out what kind of job she wants, and then work backwards from there.

It varies by state, but you typically only need an associate's degree to become a physical therapy assistant. It doesn't make much sense to get a bachelor's degree. Unless it's health information management or nursing, the Big 3 and WGU aren't really going to lead to a better career in healthcare. They would just be useful in meeting the bachelor's degree requirement for graduate school.
She doesn't qualify for Excelsior's nursing program since she's not an LVN/LPN, paramedic, or military medic. I would skip Excelsior altogether. Any undergraduate degree in public health or health science is iffy when it comes to career prospects. If she wants to work in health information management or health informatics, she should choose COSC or WGU because they have CAAHIM accreditation. This will make certification easier. COSC may not even be an option if they won't accept her credits. WGU will be cheaper anyway. WGU also has a nursing program, but it's limited to certain states.
