Straighterline, why does thy website suck so... - Gymfan15 - 05-31-2017 Anybody else have trouble with Straighterline's website? I've found that in the last few weeks, it freezes up all the time and won't load or will take FOREVER to load. I've had it crash my browser (Chrome) a few times too. Usually once I get to the course module page it's fine, but the Dashboard is from the pit of hell. Last time I took a proctored final exam, the entire website crashed and I had to restart my browser (and my proctored session) in order to get it to work again. Luckily the proctor didn't have an issue with it but I was pretty ticked. Is it doing this for anyone else? Straighterline, why does thy website suck so... - ndelco - 05-31-2017 I had problems with the proctoring when I was using Safari but a switch TO Chrome fixed my issues. Can you try a different browser? Straighterline, why does thy website suck so... - Gymfan15 - 05-31-2017 I could, but I hate Safari. I'm not sure what it is about SL's Dashboard...I think it's maybe the flash they use or something? It looks pretty but it freezes up so much. Straighterline, why does thy website suck so... - sanantone - 05-31-2017 I believe ProctorU recommends Microsoft Edge. Some older technologies only work well with Internet Explorer. Straighterline, why does thy website suck so... - bjcheung77 - 05-31-2017 I'm crazy and I just renewed my membership for the 5th or 6th time, haha... there's an issue with my membership, it won't register I renewed. I'm stuck in a limbo and just emailed the Straighterline help desk. Anyways, the issue is because Straighterline has so many "add-ons". It's sending too much data back and forth with other third party websites, you need to have something installed and blocking that ASAP. It actually isn't ProctorU, it's the Straighterline webpage itself. If you're on chrome, download the extension Script Safe and do the following. In the extension setup, have exceptions added and only allowing googleapis.com, amazonaws.com, gstatic.com, and cloudfront.net This will block everything and cause issues with your other sites, such as gmail/yahoo/hotmail or other webpages as well. So, what I do is, I enable it before I log into Straighterline, and I disable it afterwards so nothing else is affected after I use SL. You just go into Settings and Extensions, check or uncheck enabled and you're done! Each and every time I use SL, I do this. Note: If you will be testing with Proctor U, I disable it during the Proctor and re-enable it after I'm done so I continue working in SL Straighterline, why does thy website suck so... - bjcheung77 - 05-31-2017 Oh yeah, and this issue occurs on multiple computers/laptops as it's not the computer that's having issues... I have two laptops I use SL on, and both of them get this, a newer quad core AMD and an older dual core Intel... I tried both Chrome/Firefox, it'll work fine with Chrome if I have ScriptSafe on, or Firefox if I have Policeman. Note: If you've got one of those blazing fast computers or laptops (the newest ones), you won't notice the issue. I've seen the issue on several devices running i7 or XEON processors with 8-16GB of RAM. It looks like the request going to: Code: Request URL:https://dsum-sec.casalemedia.com/rum?cm_dsp_id=39&external_user_id=34d509d2-ae2a-4084-9343-49939552657f&expiration=1498842202 Fails after about 30 seconds, there are also a ton of Facebook connections and trackers that are running in the background. I just use AdBlockPro when it's acting stupid in Chrome and the issue goes away (though you may have to track when there should be a pop up). I'm running an i7 6820HQ with 16GB of RAM and I still see those problems. Same thing on my i5 gaming rig. StraighterLine just has a really rough site. Help. I have AdBlock Plus always running, do you think it's why it takes me 4-5 minutes for each screen to load? Also, everything you guys just geeked out about is a foreign language to me. Bottom line, is it something I can easily fix or should I just be patient? (LOL I'm not very good at being patient) |
