I am enrolling tonight because slots are almost full already for June sessions. By end of May I'll have over 80 credits, so I need to enroll now. I don't want to wait. Do y'all think it's too soon? I don't want to wait until everything else is completed, but maybe I am taking on more than I can do...

I'm having a hard time keeping myself going and doing my testing, but I HAVE to do this! My goal is to finish by end of July (all credits save the capstone). Some may recall me saying my mom has late stage cancer. Well currently we are home from hospital (I'm her sole caretaker) and my plan is to "graduate" before she is gone. None of us have ever finished college and it is very important for her. She is so excited and proud of me! I want this to be done before the end. A gift to her.
I was going to leisurely do this in a year and be done by end of Dec, but since her time left has now come into play after the surgery (it wasn't even an issue when I started back in January) I've been working as fast as I possibly can to get it done by summer's end.
I am already so stressed - I just want a laid back and jovial professor. I cannot handle a strict task master currently. HA!

edit* I went ahead and enrolled after I remembered someone had mentioned "rate my professor" so I went there. Found a well liked one. They only had 2 slots left so I took one.
Sigh. I don't know if I can do this in time. But I am trying hard! :ack:

My son had Steve Ryan and loved him. I just started my Capstone with him. I read a lot of good reviews on him before I bothered to ask my son who he had. So, I can't say personally, but I do think Mr. Ryan is a good Capstone professor.

As long as it's the May term you signed up for, you'll be fine for Sept graduation.

well, dangit bobby! LOL
I did it for June, as May is some important hospital visits for my mom and I knew I wouldn't have time... But at least I can say I finished with all my credits, and she will know I am graduating before...

So if reading and writing come naturally, the course starts off very slow if that is any consolation. First week, all you do is introduce yourself and "think" about your topic. In reality, everyone probably has at least a general idea of what they want to write about. End of week 2 you submit your first chapter draft. Basically, you post one week in the forums (takes about five-ten minutes), check back a few days later and comment on other student's posts (another five-ten minutes) and then submit a draft of your chapters every two weeks. My course started first week of April and we are just now submitting drafts of chapter 2 tonight. It is going very slowly. It took a while to pull together all my resources and write my rough drafts but after that it was pretty easy. If you are worried about being busy in May, it may not be as bad as you think. Obviously, if writing isn't your forte, if you aren't writing about a topic you have a lot of background info on etc. it may be harder. I just know, in my case, I highly regret I didn't register for the course several months ago. I thought I should have all my other courses complete first. Now I'm sitting here with nothing to do except this one course and I'm pretty bored. If I had registered in January I could have graduated in June and been done with all this. I almost put it off because I was so nervous about it and the reality is, it has been a very enjoyable class.

Btw, I have Dr. Cody and he is awesome so far. He has answered any questions I've had in a very timely manner.

I tried posting this once but something ate it....

All this other stuff aside, you don't know me, but I am truly sorry about what you and your Mom are going through. I won't try to give you an uplifting speech or platitudes, just know that I truly empathize with your situation.

Here's the deal. A June class won't end until late August, then you need a week or two for the paper to get graded. Too late. However, if I were in your situation, I would go ahead and apply for September graduation, then have a talk with the Prof and the graduation office explaining your desire for your mom to see you get your diploma. If the Prof will let you turn your paper in a week or so early and promise to grade it ASAP, and the graduation office agrees to push the deadlines to the breaking point, maybe you could graduate in Sept.
