Earning an AAS while enrolled at WGU? - teacher2 - 04-14-2017 Couple of questions everyone! I was thinking about applying my credits to Pierpont while I am at WGU so I can have an AAS while I am in working toward my BA. The reasoning behind it its that it would qualify me for a teaching assistant position. Is there a special rule against doing this at WGU? Also, by earning a associates would it negate any financial aid such as the pell grant? Also after earning this AAS would I have to notify WGU? I have already had my final evaluation. Earning an AAS while enrolled at WGU? - jsd - 04-14-2017 i'm no expert, but since you'd be applying it toward a lower degree and not duplicating a conferral at WGU, i think you'd be fine. If you were using those same credits to get an additional bachelor's is where you'd likely run into trouble. What your doing sounds fine. i don't know anything about financial aid, so I won't chime in there. I don't see a reason to tell WGU. Once you're enrolled, nothing you do outside of WGU matters anyway. It won't help you at WGU. I figured since it is practically free and I have no degree right now it would give me a stepping block while I am working on the BA. Earning an AAS while enrolled at WGU? - bluebooger - 04-14-2017 I believe once you're enrolled in WGU you can't transfer any credits in so if you plan on taking credits from your AAS and applying them to WGU then it won't work Earning an AAS while enrolled at WGU? - teacher2 - 04-14-2017 bluebooger Wrote:I believe once you're enrolled in WGU you can't transfer any credits in Yah, I knew that rule was in place I wasn't sure before jsd post if they had a rule against earning a degree at another place while earning a degree with them. My suggestion is to ladder your way into the WGU program, finish your BOG AAS and transfer everything into WGU. Hopefully they'll take all 60 credits or the amount you have into their program... shouldn't be an issue with this. Earning an AAS while enrolled at WGU? - dfrecore - 04-15-2017 I think one of the main reasons to get that AAS prior to enrolling is to see if they'll take a block credit for the Gen Ed's at WGU. So I would considering doing that before enrolling there. No guarantees, but if they want you to take a lot of Gen Ed's, this might be a faster option for you. |
