American Opportunity Credits - mofutofu - 12-20-2016

Hello, I have a question. I have been taking ALEKS classes and I have signed up for 2 Straighterline classes, English 1 and C++ programming. Does this qualify me as a half time student? Also, Can I get tax credits for CLEP tests? Thanks

You are not a matriculated student in that you have not been accepted into a recognized college yet, so I would say not.

It is based on actual courses taken at a school.

No sorry, Tax Credits are only awarded for money spent on a regionally accredited school. CLEP tests DSST tests and ACE courses do not count. I did my research on this one because I have spent a good amount on CLEP materials but its not covered.

Any title IV school including NA qualify also.

On this same note, does anyone know if TESU residency waiver/graduation fees count for this?

It's based on your 1098 showing if you were a full time or part time student at TESU. If less than 6 credits taken it most likely won't count and will only be used as a deduction instead of a credit.

Deductions works just as good for me, as long as I can claim it in some way its a small bonus in my eyes.

Just add it under continued educational expenses.
