Shmoop History Course Review - Synicaal - 10-11-2016

Hello All,

I'd like to take a quick couple of minutes to share my experience with Shmoop History Courses so far. First off I will start by saying if you don't like to read or hate extremely wordy things they you probably shouldn't even try Shmoop. Overall Shmoop is working for me, I have completed US History I and I am in progress on US History II. I was able to just pass (with a 72% overall) but that was with very little studying in between doing a Unit and taking the test.

On the very first test I took, I read all of the "Readings" and all of the clickable links (I will hit on these in a few). I did both of the "Activities" which were like 5 question quizzes (did not count for anything). Scored perfect on both. So I was like yeah I'm ready for this test lets go. I managed a 55!!

To my surprise the questions where not like I expected. You have to read paragraphs or pick out a quote some famous person was most likely to say. I feel like I didn't do nearly as well as I should have with the types of questions they ask. Although, I think they do this to prevent googling of answers. I didn't even try because I knew there was no possible way Google would give an answer.

After I got my method down I was able to manage 70+ on most of the Unit Tests and then finished out with a 74 on the final. I did notice that retest seemed to be a lot easier then the first versions. I only re took 3 test and they all went from 50's to 85's.

Lastly they need to update there links because a lot of them just go to a site or page that no longer exists making you look for some information in other areas which no clue if that's what they are looking for.

Overall its a manageable system. I think the setup definitely warrants college credits for completing. It is much harder then ALEKS or any other things I have done. I all most canceled my membership and just did the CLEPs for these instead. With any luck I will be able to get 3 classes done in the month membership.

Shmoop History Course Review - Synicaal - 10-24-2016

Okay, Just finished the third and final History Course through Shmoop. Rank in difficulty is Hardest: U.S. History II: 1877- Present , Middle : U.S. History I: 1492-1877 , Easiest: Modern European History

Did all three in about 3 weeks. Can be done quicker they all took about 3 days to finishes. I have Traditional Classes I have to do so I have to balance my time.
Either way, these are very doable and worth the money. I might try and squeeze in Finite Math for the heck of it to help see what it transfers in as and what it can count towards.
