Study.com Humanities Course Advice! - rieff96 - 09-27-2016 HELPPPPPP Here's the rundown. I am 1 course (3 credits) away from getting my associates degree at Florida Community College. I have a scholarship to a 4yr school starting in mid October on the table, BUT I have to have my AA degree completed before then. Florida requires students to take Humanities course, so that is the only one I am missing. I tried taking the CLEP exam but missed it by a few points. I saw Study.com Humanities 101 for credit and talked to my advisor about it. She told me that it would have to go to faculty to review and then *maybe* they'd accept it since it is not a school and will come through as ACE credit. This is stressing me out because I don't have $200 to spend on maybe. Do you all have any suggestions? Looking at the syllabus for the humanities course on study.com it seemed identical to the course they give, I don't see what the issue would be then you never know. I'm new to this so I am not sure if there is anything I can do to make sure they would accept it? Like transfer it to a partner school of theirs and then transfer it to my main school? idk. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks so much!!! Nicole Study.com Humanities Course Advice! - yb1 - 09-27-2016 I personally would suggest you get it in writing or confirmation before you do that. That being said look at DSST exams as well or just retake the clep exam. If you were so close to hitting it just study a little bit more and I imagine you will be fine. DSST | Get College Credit I personally have not taken a DSST exam http://getcollegecredit.com/assets/pdf/DSST-Exam-List-ACE-2016.pdf I imagine that intro to world religions wouldn't be too hard Study.com Humanities Course Advice! - rieff96 - 09-27-2016 Hi, Thanks for the reply. They said I need to take the course first, then they will submit to faculty to check it, they will not give me confirmation in writing before. Also It has to be "humanities 101, 102, etc" intro to world religions would not work or any other topic for that matter. They are very specific. DSST does not have a humanities exam CLEP has a 3 month wait time to re-take the test. I have to be done with this by next month. Study.com Humanities Course Advice! - OakLakeNC - 09-27-2016 There are the Intro to Religion and Art of the Western World DSST exams if Study.com won't work. I would definitely ask for anything to be pre-approved. Mid-October is coming up fast, I hope you can make it! Try to really push the faculty for an answer. Edit** Just saw that no DSST will work. Have you looked into the UEXCEL exams? If no exams or Study.com work the only other thing I can think of is one of those places where you can sign up and start today. But you are going to have to shell $$$ out big time. Hopefully someone comes along with another option. Study.com Humanities Course Advice! - rieff96 - 09-27-2016 Hi Oak. My school considers "intro to religion" a religion class and "art of the western world" a art class, not a humanities class. Florida is a bit different, I have to take "humanities 101" nothing else will substitute that. I've asked for pre-approval, and they told me they do not do it that way. I have to take the class then it will be submitted to faculty for review, not the other way around. Study.com Humanities Course Advice! - OakLakeNC - 09-27-2016 Just to throw out another idea...See if the Humanities department head will let you challenge the final exam for a 'P' in Humanities I. I have heard of that here. Study.com Humanities Course Advice! - yb1 - 09-27-2016 could you find a CBE course from a regionally accredited school that you could take. Might cost some money though. I have heard of that here.I second going to the department head. They will have more latitude, and would likely be the one to review your Study.com course anyway. You could discuss both the Study.com course and taking their Humanities final. Explain the situation with the scholarship and communicate just how much effort you have put into this. You might get them to give you an informal "OK" on Study.com. Alternately, see if there's any budge in the scholarship at the 4 yr. school. Once again go as high in the administration as you can, and lay it on thick. Maybe they will accept you if the Humanities course is in progress at the CC or if you immediately take it at the 4 yr. school. My daughter had a situation where one of the schools she was applying to didn't want to accept credits from another state school as meeting their transfer application requirements. She made an appointment with the English Dept head at the school she was applying to, and it turned out he was an alum of the same school she had taken the courses at. He was quite happy to write a letter verifying the suitability of the courses to meet the prereqs and told her to contact him if she had any problems at all (as it turned out, she got into Cal and didn't need it). You just never know unless you ask. Study.com Humanities Course Advice! - dfrecore - 09-27-2016 I would take Humanities from Study.com and see if they will accept it. If they won't, then at least you tried. And, it's a study course for the CLEP. Unfortunately, I think there is no other Humanities 101 course that we know of here on this forum that you can take. Anything else would have to be taken at a college, and most won't be self-paced and able to be finished by mid-October. |
