No UL requirements for TESU BSBA Accounting degree? - deuce2w - 08-20-2016

I was going through the catalog and noticed for the TESU BSBA in Accounting they don't have a UL or Capstone requirement. Since my local CC offers all the required accounting courses this looks pretty tempting for a 2nd degree and to let me sit for the CPA exam. Anyone look into this?

BSBA in Accounting Degree at Thomas Edison State University

Thomas Edison State University: Accounting/CPA

Strategic Management is the capstone, but it can be tested out of through a TECEP. You're right that the page doesn't mention the upper level requirement in the site, but if I run the "what if" feature on my credits, it does say

"12SH must be upper level"

When I run BSBA in Accounting 2015-16 catalog.

However, it does not say that for BSBA in Accounting/CPA.

I would talk to an adviser.

This is just an oversight on their part - the 12UL credits are required for all business degrees. If you look at the actual catalog on their website, it says under BSBA AOS that "A maximum of6 credits at the 100-200 level can be applied." This is for ALL business degrees. It goes on to specify something for the Accounting/CPA degree; it has 24cr and 0 Free Electives allowed (the rest have 18cr in the AOS and 6cr in Free electives). This is to show why the Accounting/CPA degree in particular is a little different from the rest of the degree plans.

What is your first degree? Because if it's a BSBA General Management, then you can't get an Accounting degree. Once you choose Gen Mgmt, that's the only one you can get. You may choose other specific ones and get 2 (CIS and Marketing, Accounting and HR, for instance - mix and match any 2).

If you first degree is not a BSBA, then you will be required to get 24 additional credits in the Core/AOS, and 12UL cr have to be included.

Oh ok, my degree is from Champlain College BS in Integrated Studies. Not sure if I'd go for this if TESU needs the accounting classes to be from a 4 year. Thanks for the response!

Since you already have a degree, you could see what it still takes to get the BSBA in Accounting. Not all of the courses have to come from a 4-yr college. If you put your transcript on here, we can help you see what it would take.

Here are the credits I have by source (CLEP, Walla Walla CC, Northern VA CC, Pierce College, Cochise College, and Champlain College). I can take UL accounting classes from Champlain for 133 a SH if that is the cheapest way to fulfill the UL requirements.

I think it would be pretty easy and inexpensive to get your BSBA in Accounting from TESU. Here's what you still need:

1) Public Speaking/Speech - DSST or SL's Intro to Comm

2) Info Lit Requirement - Tech Writing DSST or TECEP, or A&I Lit CLEP, or World Religions from SL, DSST or Study.com

3) An additional math course - ALEKS Intermediate Algebra is the cheapest & easiest $20

24cr of Core/AOS:

1) Principles of Management - Saylor, SL, Study.com, CLEP - unless they count one of your other courses in this area

2) International Business - Study.com's Globalization and International Management

3) Strategic Management - must be taken at TESU, but can be taken via TECEP exam $114

4) Intermediate Accounting I - SL's Financial Accounting will work here

5) Intermediate Accounting II - Penn Foster ($299) or CSU-Global ($250)

6) Cost Accounting (SL's Managerial Accounting) - cheapest UL elective

7) Any UL Accounting elective - CSU-Global

8) Any UL Accounting elective - CSU-Global

The only issue I see is the Federal Taxes course is normally UL at TESU, but you took it at a CC so it will probably be LL. Intermediate Accounting I & II are normally considered LL at TESU (and I still is through SL), but at CSU-Global they are both UL, and at Penn Foster they are both ACE-recommended UL as well. I might want to get some clarification first before deciding where to take those.

If you wanted to get the Accounting/CPA track instead of the general Accounting one, then you would only need 2 additional courses on top of the regular track to get it.

Make sure that if you're going to take Int'l Business at Study.com (you should), then take 1 additional course there since 2 come with the price of $199 (less coupon of 20% off if you can find it).

Wow I didn't know this! Hm, so many decisions... lol This info should probably be in the wiki unless it's already there.

What about the 16-credit residency requirement? How would one account for that if pursuing a bsba in accounting?
