Anybody have DSST Counseling transfer to TESU as PSY-331 recently? - SDO - 08-18-2016

Advising told me that it was COU-262. I know that they could also use PSY-331. There have been a couple of stories about it not being given the PSY code, but has anybody gotten it recently? Also, does anyone know what would be the process for appealing this? Thanks.

IIRC a forum member mentioned this change last year. I would hope that if you were enrolled prior to July 2015 (or thereabouts) you may have a good change in having the exam/credit coded as UL.

Send an email to registrar@tesu.edu requesting an appeal.
see pg - Procedures and Appeal Guidelines for Transfer Credit Evaluations

I've also had luck in the past speaking directly to someone on the credit evaluations team. Don't know if they offer this type of personal attention anymore, so much has changed over the last two years.

TESU lists it on their courses as Intro to Counseling PSY-331. Maybe you could call them back and ask what the difference is between their course and the DSST exam?

It's listed on their DSST page now as COU-262, so I doubt anyone has recently had it come in as PSY UL.

DSST (formerly DANTES)

It's definitely worth questioning what the rationale is there, as dfrecore and others have suggested. But I wouldn't hold my breath on an appeal, since they have the equivalency published. That beimg said, it's always worth the attempt. Worst they can say is no.

If you're enrolled, then email the registrar. The DSST was listed as COU-262 on the website even when it was transcribed as PSY-331. An advisor will go by the catalog or website and won't be aware of how the registrar is transcribing the course.

You're welcome!

BTW, I found the reference - post by Leherself, March 2016.
"Fundamentals of Counseling transferred in as COU-262 for me (earlier this year). When I inquired at the school about it being listed as PSY-331 in the past, they told me that was an old policy, and it only counts as lower level now."

I have appealed this issue to the Registrar with a point-by-point comparison of the syllabi of the TESU Counseling class and the DSST Counseling exam. I will keep you updated.

I have received the following response from the Registrar's office.

HI,
Unfortunately, the Office of the Registrar is not able to accommodate your request as we are required to abide by the equivalency set up in our system. If you wish to pursue this further, you may appeal it to the Heavin School of Arts and Sciences (Heavin@tesu.edu) . The procedure to submit an appeal can be found at Academic Appeals and Waivers.

Thank you,
Kristin

I wonder if I should appeal again. This makes no sense when you compare the syllabi side by side. Has anybody here appealed to the school and been successful? Sanantone, maybe? Any suggestions for an appeal?

I'd definitely appeal through the channel they suggest -- it may be that they have changed their approval process, just like they are changing so many other things <sigh>, and can't hurt anything.

Also, I'm interested to know what they say as that DSST was one I had planned to take until I saw that it is no longer UL @ TESU.
