Well, I did my last upgrade today... (My overclocked Pentium Anniversary Edition)
I'm leaving my other two as they're too old to be upgraded, going making them into a Chrome/Chromium Desktop and a Chrome/Chromium Laptop.

For those who don't want to use Windows 10, but do want to get an edition/upgrade license just in case.
I recommend the following, this will allow a free upgrade license:
1) Backup your data (not once, but twice, for me I have 3 backups...)
2) Upgrade to Windows 10 as per instructions on their page
3) If you want to go back to previous Windows, you can do so after 30 days

The benefit to this is that you will have a newer version of windows.
But some people don't like change or system doesn't handle the minor updates.
If you really don't want to do the jump, no worries, as this will provide you a license for future use.

Note: If your computer hardware crashes at some point and not recoverable.
That license may not be used again, as the online activate "sends your pc configuration" to the servers.
Each PC, even with the same components have identifiers for each device/peripheral installed.

We started our last upgrade last night and it stuck at 99%. I started again today and all is well. I worry that if I don't upgrade they will stop supporting old versions like they did to other older versions. I was not crazy about 10 at first but I have learned to get along with it.

Oh, I've had that issue happen before. Don't use the download feature when you do the install, instead, you should copy run the media creation tool.
I used a 16gb USB flash drive, and ran the install from that instead and I used it for all my computers... no issues at all, with the download, it dies!
