English Comp w/essay? - Bonechills - 10-04-2007

Hello, I took English comp w/essay about a month ago and did really bad. (Not posting score)Sad My next thought was to take a course. I'm going to have my credits transferred to TESC. I'm required to take English comp w/essay. I'm really open to any ideas. I would like to stay with something online. Thank you for your ideas!

Hey! I took English Comp. w/Essay and used IC, The REA Study Guide, Standard Deviants tapes on English Composition, and some online tutelage from I Study Smart. Pass Your Class is also available but I didn't use it. With IStudySmart I had someone give me essay topics to write on and then my tutor would look at it and respond back to me with tips and advice to help me understand the question better-which was something I was having trouble with. I wasn't having a problem with the multiple choice section, and, if you've taken Analyzing and Interpreting Literature, you should already have somewhat of a grasp of how to take that section. As for the Essay part, I would suggest write, write, write, write, and write some more! My Essay question was something like, but I'm not sure of the specifics because it was a while ago, this:

The saying, Eagles sore alone, implies that people can't accomplish great things by having relationships because they are always being pulled by those relationships to be less unique and more common. Do you agree with this statement? And why or why not?

Anyway, it was something like that.
Well, I hope that will help you! All the best! "Go knock 'em dead"!Wink Smile Big Grin

English comp isn't a bad class to take. If there were 300 and 400 level English Comp classes at TESC I would enroll in a heartbeat. (My husband didn't pass it either, it's not the end of the world.) That said, I think that writing skills are necessary in other aspects of your degree/career, and especially in grad school (ya never know!!) So take it in stride.

I would suggest your local community college first. Many have English comp as an online option, but it is probably very inexpensive. You may find winter mini-sessions (our community college has a 14 day 3 credit Eng101 class! It is a "seat class" and meets during winter break- I would jump on it if I needed the credit) You community college will want you to take a placement test (like COMPASS) which is usually free and a couple hours. Nothing to study for. (but brush up anyway)

TESC requires 6 credits, so you will need to complete 2 semesters. In the scheme of things, you could be enrolled in the English class and still using IC for your tests. AND, you can still attempt Eng comp CLEP later- 6 months from now- after you have had comp 1. You would duplicate 3 of the 6 credits, but you could still earn the second half. Just a thought.

Don't let it be a set back- just think how it will help you in the long run.
