Help with degree plan for mom - JTP - 07-11-2016 Ok my mom is interested in completing an associates mostly for personal achievement but also she would get a little raise at work. She has taken a few courses at the local community college over the years and they were all Quarter Hours. I'm horrible at staying up to date on the latest school changes and credit options, so I was hoping I could get some help making a plan for her. I'm not positive but I think she would prefer ease and speed over cost savings. Anything marked as DEV will probably not transfer (they definitely won't at TESU). So it looks like she would have 12cr (semester) to transfer in. Help with degree plan for mom - KayV - 07-11-2016 Good for your mom! I agree with dfrecore, and would just add that the West Virginia Board of Governors AAS degrees might be another good option. Search the forum because we have had several threads about those over the past few years. Here are those classes, in semester hour units: ACC-112 51 PRIN ACCOUNTING II B 3.00 qh/ 2.00 sh BIS-M75 50 THE INTERNET A 2.00 qh/ 1.33 sh ACC-111 53 PRIN ACCOUNTING I B 3.00 qh/ 2.00 sh MAT-105 50 BUSINESS MATHEMATICS A 4.00 qh/ 2.67 sh DEV-108 51 INTRO TO ALGEBRA A 4.00 qh/ 2.67 sh DEV-110 51 INTRO TO COMPOSITION A 4.00 qh/ 2.67 sh BIS-160 54 INTRO TO WD PWRPT & EXCEL A 3.00 qh/ 2.00 sh DEV-085 70 FUND OF ARITHMETIC S 4.00 qh/ 2.67 sh MAN-105 52 INTRO TO BUSINESS B 3.00 qh/ 2.00 sh Help with degree plan for mom - sanantone - 07-11-2016 The student services fee at Excelsior is not paid in the first year. It's a fee to maintain enrollment. Help with degree plan for mom - clep3705 - 07-12-2016 I wish I could get my kids to do all of my degree planning for me! Should I ask for that as a birthday present or something? Is your mom a good test taker? She may be able to test out of many credits. What is she good at? What interests her? If she likes history, testing out of history may be fast and inexpensive. Check with your local community college and see what their policies are on credit by examination. Help with degree plan for mom - Prloko - 07-12-2016 I think dfrecore is spot on about COSC. If I had to choose for an AA they have the simplest, most straight forward requirements for the AA. 40 Gen Ed credits including cornerstone and the rest can be filled in with her electives and FEMA. Converting the quarter hours to SH yields approx 12 credits (not including the developmental courses which won't count). So with 8 FEMA that's 32. I suspect that 9.33 of the 12 will go into electives. The other 2.67 is for the business math which may count as the math requirement (check with COSC on this). She can do a few FEMAs to get herself started/motivated. She can then start knocking out some CLEP and straighterline. For math there's always ALEKs to round it out. https://www.charteroak.edu/catalog/current/ug_prog_study_degree_requirements/ Help with degree plan for mom - videogamesrock - 07-12-2016 Look at the BOG AAS at at any WV CC.
