Too much complains about ProctorU - vpsycho - 06-14-2016
Preparing to final exams of some courses i get from saylor but concerned about the proctoru thing. Read tons of complains and very bad comments from yelp and some sites. People mention about exam delaying, technical issues from proctoru etc.. And the main problem is, cause of those problems people had to pay extra and lost time. Anyone have problem with this Proctoru ?

It's been fine for the most part. I had one instance where it took 20 minutes to start my exam, but otherwise it's been good. You always have to remember that people are less likely to take the time to post that everything's OK.

Aside that the verification parts might take some time and sometimes the wait to get a proctor when it's busy, I didn't really have any problems with ProctorU.
With Straighterline, I always planned three days in advance and never had to pay.
One time, the Straighterline website was under maintenance when I planned my exam (my mistake though) and I couldn't take my exam. I contacted the help desk and I could take the exam without charge later that day.

I had fantastic experience with ProctorU for about 8 of my exams. I paid for platinum membership for about $25. That allowed me to take all my straighterline finals at moments notice. I used their chat feature to schedule my finals as scheduling through straighterline website had added fee for take it now option. I highly recommend everyone to pay for platinum if you have to take more than 3 test, otherwise it cost you $8 per test to use take it now option.

I never had any issues with them either. When I was taking the bulk of my classes with them they did not offer this new platinum service. However, I always did the "take it now" because I always decide on a moment's notice when I want to take a test or not and can't do the three day thing. I think the majority of those on here who have used them have had no major issues.

Reviews are just that, reviews of their own personal experience; just like the media/paparazzi, the good hardly ever come, but the bad is spread like wild fires.
ProctorU and the other online proctoring services are there to make sure you're not doing anything off limits; I think, all online exam proctors are the same.
