Charter Oak Enrollment Questions - TinHead - 06-06-2016 I am looking to enroll for the fall semester to finish the final 2 courses (Cornerstone/Capstone) in my degree plan and I was speaking with the school today as was told that the fall semester begins August 22nd 2016 so my first question is: 1. When should I apply to the school considering the fall semester begins on August 22nd 2016? Is it better to do so earlier, as I do not know how long the application process takes to be approved? 2. Should I have the transcripts sent to the school before I apply? I would assume the would hold on to the transcripts once they have been sent for a small period of time (ie: 30 days) but I am unsure. 3. Since Saylor and Study.com are ACE recommended, would I only need to apply for 1 transcript (that would include the credits from both institutes) or do I need to get a transcript through both institutions? Just trying to save money 4. How do I get the transcripts sent to the school? Am I able to do so digitally --or-- does it have to be via snail mail? Thanks! Charter Oak Enrollment Questions - davewill - 06-06-2016 Why would you wait at all? I'd apply today. Charter Oak Enrollment Questions - TinHead - 06-06-2016 davewill Wrote:Why would you wait at all? No, just the application fee. If you're not taking the capstone/cornerstone, you won't be charged for those yet. The graduation fee, other misc fees, etc should all be charged after you finish the degree requirements. 2) You should send the transcripts after you have applied and have been admitted. It'll be strange having a transcript with no student record to add that transcript to. 3) ALEKS, Saylor and Study.com will send your credits/credential info that you've passed to ACE Credit Registry This is a free service, it doesn't matter how many courses you've taken from each school, and goes to ACE and not COSC. 4) ACE sends the info for you on Saylor/Study.com's behalf indicating their recommendation for credit. ACE only charges $20 for the first transcript to COSC, if for some reason you need another, it's $15 for all subsequent ones. For example, if you would like to send those same transcripts to TESU to get a second evaluation, it's $15 for the second transcript. Charter Oak Enrollment Questions - TinHead - 06-06-2016 Awesome! Thanks so much everybody. I thought I would immediately start getting billed for the capstone/cornerstone credits by COSC but this has alleviated my worries ![]() Charter Oak Enrollment Questions - cookderosa - 06-07-2016 TinHead Wrote:Awesome! I thought I would immediately start getting billed for the capstone/cornerstone credits by COSC but this has alleviated my worries you have to request your ACE evaluated courses to be put ONTO your ACE transcript- did you do that? If not, do that first. In other words, when you open your ACE account, if all your courses aren't showing, then all your courses won't be sent when your transcript goes- which will waste $$ because you'll have to do it twice. HTH I have not done it yet but I will make sure to do this ![]() Charter Oak Enrollment Questions - rebel100 - 06-07-2016 Know that Saylor can be exceedingly slow to communicate your scores....agonizingly slow at times. One of the folks I'm helping out locally had to endure multiple emails, phone calls and long waits to get her scores sent by Saylor. It can happen to anyone, that is the thing to stay on top of. After you spend the $75 with COSC that is all you spend with them until you choose to enroll. If you wait more than 6 months, you will have to apply again. I want to enroll for the August 22nd fall semester so I should be able to avoid having to apply again ![]() I took the Saylor courses a while ago and I have one more to do next month so thank you for the heads up. I will make sure to stay on top of that Charter Oak Enrollment Questions - jsd - 06-07-2016 I don't know from experience, so someone may be able to correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe I've seen that Saylor is fine about approving classes for your ACE transcript in normal time, but it's their NCCRS requests that take forever. If that's true, and you have other ACE classes that you'll be sending anyway so their wont be additional fees, use the ACE service for Saylor courses that are ACE approved instead of going the NCCRS route (since many of their courses are approved by both services). For some Saylor courses you might not have the ACE option, but worth it for those that you do have the option on. |
