Upper Division Humanities Credits for TESU - Leherself - 01-28-2016
Any ideas? I need 15 credits worth of upper division humanities courses in order to get my double major. Currently I'm two classes short.
So far I have:
DSST World Religions - transcribes as REL-405
Straighterline Business Communication - transcribes as COM-300
Straighterline Business Ethics - transcribes as PHI-386
Sadly, DSST Ethics in America is considered a 200-level course by TESU, so that's a no go.
I need two more - ideally something inexpensive that I can complete quickly. Humanities includes: Philosophy, Religion, Communication, Literature, Art, etc. *Not* history, sadly, since that would have been super easy. For whatever reason, TESU classes history as a social science, and I already have plenty of those.
I was originally thinking about taking two classes through TESU, but I realized I don't really want to spend that much time and money on it. I'd like the second major, since I'm so close, but it's not *really* necessary.
It looks like TOR might have a couple options? Principles of Moral Philosophy I & II are both recommended for upper division credit, as is their Medieval Hispano-Jewish Poetry course. Does anyone have any experience with how these might transfer to TESU? Looks like Jewish studies exams are only $50 a credit also, plus the proctorU fee.
Any other ideas?

Even though I and many others think that history is better classified as humanities, I believe that most colleges count it as a social science. This should give you some ideas.

Oh thanks! Lol, I'd completely discounted UExcels as an option for some reason. I don't know why, since I've already taken 7 of them. Interpersonal Communication and Bioethics look like good bets, though it's a little painful that Interpersonal Comm. costs over $300 (ouch!). Hopefully those will go in as COM-330 & PHI-475 or something similar.
Jeez, by the end of this though I'll have taken *all* of the ethics classes. Environmental Ethics, Ethics in America, the free ethics class, Business Ethics, Bioethics... I should be the most ethically aware college graduate ever.

SL also has Intro to Religion (REL-405) plus Business Communications (COM-300)
TCC has some UL Judaic Studies courses, but I would check with TESU to make sure they were Hum rather than SocSci before taking them. In looking at the titles, they look like SocSci/History to me.
SCU-Global has 8 of UL Communications courses (including Interpersonal Communications) and they are only $250 (and include study materials).
LowCostGenEd.com also has Interpersonal Comm for $299.

I would call and ask but if memory serves the TECEPs Marketing Communications and Managerial Communications double as Business/Communicaiions credit.
FYI, if they approve the exams and you decide to go that route, be sure to get it pre planned in your area of study. TESU has been denying previously allowed courses/exams behind the scenes quite a bit lately.

I am a TESU humanities major also. The free ethics class at The Institutes is two upper level credits in philosophy.
Does anyone know how the TOR ethics classes are transcribed at TESU?

Did you know that if you got to TCC's website and click on the FULL LIST of courses, they do not give you the FULL LIST of courses? They leave out all of the Jewish studies courses, many of which are UL. So don't forget to dig further before you leave their website.
Also, they are NCCRS-approved rather than ACE. I would get anything that you want to take here that isn't the "norm" pre-approved before taking it.

I agree about getting pre-approval especially since many of TOR's exams are new. However, TOR does have a LOT of experience with The Big 3. Hence, the Judaic Studies concentrations. It's just that TOR wasn't widely marketed before. I know there is someone on this forum who said she has gotten most of her credits this way but she rarely posts on the forum. I'm quite glad that TOR is expanding and they do seem to listen to their audience (us) so that's great. Their process is just a little odd because their website doesn't explain everything and, as you mentioned, doesn't even include all their offerings. I should add that there is no transcript fee and I had my TOR credits transferred very quickly to Patten, Excelsior and TESU.
By the way, the Medieval Hispano-Jewish poetry exam sounds super interesting. If I still needed some upper level humanities, I would have gone this route. The study materials are easy to understand, too.
