Some schools were snooty and required a 4 on certain tests. A school can still do this, but they have to provide a good justification.

I used to really like AP options. For the same content, you could look at a college's page and decide which exam gave you the most bang for your buck. Sometimes they were equal (so CLEP would win based on no written answers) but a lot of times AP passes got a bit more credit...making AP something to consider for some people. Those days are GONE. For starters, AP has jacked their price- now it's up to $92, and with all the AP exams being Common Core aligned by the end of this year, I think there will ultimately be a HUGE difference now in content. Prior to 2014, you could make a case for non-high school students (adults or homeschoolers) to attempt them, but I'm just not a fan anymore. AP is now aligned "down" to k-12 while CLEP is aligned "up" to college level. So in addition to the content question, now you're going to have to prepare using k-12 AP books specifically Common Core aligned... no more freebie Khan Academy or old textbooks you found on ebay for a buck. For those considering AP, it's soooooooooo much more involved than CLEP. Did I mention the essay sections for every exam, even in math? And they have ONE test date per year per subject. LOL

Doesn't aligning it down to K-12 make it even easier for adults with previous knowledge to take the AP and pass and thus get college credit...?
